Man, I hear ya! My rides usually consist of Lyme Kiln, Snickersville, Blue Ridge Mountain Road, The Plains, 626, etc....in other words, in the direct opposite of DC. :D But, I do have to admit there are some cool places in DC that are much more accessible by motorcycle!

I like these pics. They have a gritty, kind of calm before the storm, city-scape thing going on. Hard to describe.

If you have seen and love the movie Heat with Pacino and Deniro, you probably know what I'm trying to describe.

I havent been in so long. I kind of want to go back. But that crazy toll on 66 scares me. I guess I just cant go during peak hours? or is it free for motorcycles?

From what I hear, off peak, the tolls aren't bad. But you're right, during peak hours its a complete fleecing. I know they have it tied to some mathematical formula, but when you hear of someone paying $42+ dollars one way, the math is suspect!

Thankfully the closest I have to go to DC is Tysons for work. So I just take the Toll Road, which isn't too terrible.

Just got back from an 1100 mile round trip on my S3, down the BRP to the Asheville area and back. Lots of great riding and camping, a little rain, and no big issues. A great trip.

Almost there. I'm still debating pre-paying for the first few services or going balls out and just doing everything myself from the get-go. I know the 1k service is a quick oil change and they go over torque on "critical components" which is most likely anything that was touched during initial set up. Anything I'm missing?

They told me they changed oil and primary, charged battery, and checked all bolts. This is my sheet:

Sounds about right. I just changed out my derby cover so I already have a new gasket there. "Charged the battery"... Pffft...

Did you pre-pay for any service plans?

Got a tire warranty too. If I hit a nail/pothole on the road, call them, they pick it up and replace the tire. Whatever brand I want, as long as its stock size. If the wheel is bent, they replace it with a new one. If they cant replace it that day, they provide me with a comparable bike and hotel room (if I am out of state) and dinner, until the bike is repaired. All that for $400.

I had that on my FZ too. I was just moving into my house at the time, so the neighborhood had nails and stuff in the road. Used it several times. Pays itself off after 1 use.

I might do the first few with them just to make sure I don't mess with anything. Being a new bike/first model year I want to be covered if any warranty issues come up. *cough* 3rd gen *cough cough*

I usually do oil changes at the beginning of every season, no matter what the mileage. I dont trust this 5k oil change. Even with my truck, it feels weird if I change it after 3-4k with synthetic

I figure if you ride regularly enough to keep everything lubed then the 5k interval is OK. If you're only putting a few thousand miles on per year, then you should probably go to time/season intervals rather than rely on mileage.
