New Muffler Mounting

So I have been reading around all over the forums about performance mufflers and I think I have made up my mind on getting an 18" magnaflow muffler. At some point I will have it welded into my exhaust piping, but for now I was thinking I would just bolt it in until I can get access to a welder.

My question is this. Since the inlet/outlet of the muffler is 2.25" (same diameter as the rest of the tubing in my stock exhaust), would I need to get some sort of adapter or extension to be able to bolt it into my existing setup? Or would I simply be able to put it in line and clamp it with an exhaust band clamp like this one?

Also, in looking at my stock muffler last night, it looks like there is a hanger welded onto the muffler. For a temporary solution I was thinking I could just use some metal plumbers tape or bailing wire to help support it until I can weld a hanger to it and weld up the tubing. Pretty janky, i know, but this obviously wouldn't be a long-term solution.

How about a coupler? Same price as the other one.

 

Unless your boosted new exhaust wont really make anything power and jusy simply upgrading the muffler wont do all that much.

Going to a full 2.5” will be better but probably no preformace gains, but if your after the sound then yes a 2.5” system will sound better especially with a straight through design like the magmaflow

 

I know it won't really help make more power or anything, I just want my truck to sound good. I'm bored with the lame trashcan stock muffler.

I would have to get a 2.5" to couple two 2.25" tubes, correct?

 

I'd just cut a piece of paper around each fitting to get the size. Then tape the ends closed so you have a circle.(like fitting Ring size)Take it with you to Napa and they can find you the correct one.

 

If your pipe is 2.25 O.D. then buy a 2.25 I.D. coupler and two 2.25 exhaust clamps. $10-$15.

 

Or even better, chop off my muffler then drive to an auto parts store so I can test fit parts there.

I don’t have much of an answer but I also went with the 18” magnaflow for my 2.7L. Sounds great imo. Not too loud and annoying, but definitely noticeable and you can get peoples attention if you want to.

 

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Nothing that will get on my nerves on long drives, but still have the ability to sound better than stock and turn the occasional head
