I wondered that also. Unfortunately I got a false "brake" warning with only a couple hundred miles on my truck. I figured if I continue to have issues and I swapped the grille out the dealership would tell me I'm on my own. I ended up getting a SR bezel instead and just got rid of the chrome. May do a pro grille a couple years down the road out of warranty.

That happened when I first did it, it was only secured with the little top screw. The next day I put the square nuts in and tightened it and it’s been good to go. 2000 miles later, no lights and activates as it should.

Oh, they will break...at least one or two of them. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anybody removing it without breaking at least one.

I have all the factory parts to change over to the pro grille. I really feel that the recalibration is a must if you really want to trust the system. No way that lowering the rader does not change the effects of the system. It may not always show a error but when we really need it to work correctly I think it should be calibrated. This is why Toyota does not want us changing it.

Hmm I wonder if there is something on the sensor?

I drove two 30mile trips yesterday with it on and the sensor works as advertised and I did the same thing with the license plate.

I'm actually not the biggest fan of the cruise control assist and prefer to just adjust speed on my own. Than again, haven't even had the truck for a month yet.

If you go on a really long road trip with adaptive cruise, you'll never want to drive another vehicle without it.

After putting in a faux Pro grill and gluing plastic in front of the TSS module, I took mine for a drive testing out the adaptive cruise and it kept the distance appropriately. However, has anyone tried to test the PCS after installing the Faux Pro grill with the ghetto garnish?

PCS worked as it should for me after the plastic install.

Not for sure, I'm going to go out on my lunch break and inspect it. It worked during my test drive last night and for 99% of my commute this morning and threw the error right as I was pulling into work. Hope it was a fluke.

I am a huge fan of the adaptive cruise control though. My wife's Highlander has it and drove 18 hours to Maine a couple of years ago and it was so nice.

So on lunch I checked and there didn't seem to be anything on the sensor. I drove across town, turned on Lane Departure and that worked, as did radar cruise control at 55-65 MPH. No warnings at all.

This is just the information I was looking for. I bought an '18 OR two days ago that was dealer modded with a bunch of extras including the grill and have been getting errors for the PCS and adaptive cruise. I came from a base model Frontier so all these new fangled safety features confuse me. This post explains a lot. Thanks!

Yeah, the Land Departure warning is pretty important if you don't have a snorkel installed.

I’m a little skeptical about the “Recalibration” of the TSS after installing a PRO Grille. I mean what exactly do they re-calibrate? There is no adjustment in the sensor itself. Is it a computer calibration? Can they change the angle of the “beam” through the computer?

I mean really, do they go in and check th boxes that read “Lift Installed” and the check if it’s a 2” 3” or 6”? Then they check the box for the tire size. Or do they have a reflector on a wall that reflect the “beam” back to the sensor in the grille? So, if what Toyota says is true, we should have to recalibrate when a lift is installed, then when tires and wheels are added, and again if a PRO Grille is installed. I’m no engineer and I’m sure I don’t really understand the TSS but the following is my experience.

    1. Bought pickup, had an error because of snow on Grille during drive home from dealership. When I reached clear road and wanted to use the cruise control again, the TSS wouldn’t allow it. I stopped, cleaned off the sensor, and then the cruise control worked perfectly.

    2. No Errors after that.

    3. Installed lift, no errors.........

    4. After wheels arrived , wheels and tires installed, no errors.....

    5. Installed PRO Grille, no errors.......

TSS has worked as advertised in all of the above configurations. Even the error I saw was......as advertised. I just turned 3k miles. Maybe I am missing something?????

Bought the pro grille when I bought the truck and had Toyota install it. Mine doesn’t have the garnish piece. No error messages, cruise control and everything works fine. 300+ miles with this grille

    Is the sensor exposed?
