fender clip broken "help"

does anyone know how to fix this clip thing for the fender???

 

how hard is it to replace it???

 

Is the area on the fender flare broken or is it the clip? I slid into a pole this winter and snapped some clips and ruined the fender flare side also.

 

My best advice and my best cure is to:

Blue tape a nice outline of the fender flare (right on the outline of the fender - if anything maybe 1/16" below the fender line).

Blue tape the fender flare covering up the exterior part of the body 'seal'

Note this is for a cure that removes all of the clips.

For each fender flare you will need about 1 to 1.5 tubes of black silicone caulk.

Rough up and clean the mating parts of the fender and the fender flare (about 1-1.5 inches around the arch.

Lay about three 3/8" beads on the inside arch of the fender flare

Blue tape the flares back on - I can not stress enough not to be cheap with the silicone.

Then clean up the excessive silicone the best you can - the thin film will come off after everything cures.

I have done this to the front two flares on my truck and I have wheeled the heck out of it and they are on there solid.

If you are doing just one, this method would work too. The problem with the clips is that they will typicallly break for the same reason they broke before and the razor thin clip bosses are way to small to keep up with any level of (ab)use.

 

thanks man i will try that....i beat the hell outa my truck this weekend broke the clip, bent the front tow hook like 2"inces bent a tie rod.." i had my truck in a 3 1/2 foor cliff on a river and had to walk 8.5 miles till i found another person.......but thanks for the tips......

Ditch the clips and bolt the flare to the fender with SS hardware, guaranteed to hold to the fender for good, if you rip the flare off, the fender will need replacement for sure

These has been replaced with bigger washers, since the ones shown here were plated an rusted bad, new ones are SS.

Just a note... if you use the Silly Cone method - you will be able to 'glue it' back on.

For the love of god please do not use silicone! Have you ever had to take that shit off! It's a bloody nightmare if you ever need to take it off for any reason such as repair work on the fender and can lead to more damage. The flares usually come off pretty easy. Take it off and ask the parts guy at the dealer. He'll know what clips you need. Probably cost you the same amount as a shitty tube of silicone. Only thing worse would probably using urethane.

 

Make sure you get the right one.
Right one meaning if its a blue clip get blue, orange gets orange. There is 2 different ones and they go in different spots.
real easy to replace tho.
