That, and you have to find someone (beside Cody) that'll agree....

I was being serious. It was thought over with 2 or 3 different women throughout my life. It just bit me in the ass and they get flaky. As all women are.

Thank god I never wasted money on a rock attached to a metal ring!

It'll happen....eventually. I said those same sort of things. Over and over.... You just have to quit leaning on pre-conceived notions of what to expect....and find the right person. I'm VERY serious. Best thing I could have done for myself.

Remember...ALL PEOPLE....Men and women can be "flaky". You and me are no exceptions.

I've been "not married", then married, then "unmarried", and now HAPPILY MARRIED. Stage 4 is hands down the happiest part of my life. Can't force it to happen, can't make someone else comply to your standards or wishes. It just has to happen. Then you'll understand.

:amen: brother. I met my wife through a mutual friend. The first few times we went out as a group. The communication level was above and beyond. To this day there is nothing we both cant talk about to one another. Communication is a key factor in a relationship.

Yeah, I've gone through the first three of those and I'm about to attempt the fourth. We've been together for 6 years, living together for five of those and I can't tell you how happy I am with her. I've been keeping it quiet (just told her father and her 18yo son so far) but I'm going to be asking my gf to marry me in a couple of weeks. We'll be on vacation in Vermont, which is where we met, and I'm going to ask her at the top of a mountain bike trail named Heaven's Bench (same spot my tattoo is a picture from). I took this picture when we were on vacation up there last September.

Thank you all. I have no reason to think it'll be anything but a "Yes". We've talked about it in very general terms and we've both been married before, so this is step four for both of us. We're quite happy with the relationship as it is, but there are benefits to being married that just being in a committed relationship doesn't have. My main point was more a reinforcement of @Bluegrass Taco's post. My first marriage I thought I was happy, we'd been together for a while and she seemed into all the stuff I was, we had fun, then once we were married, it was like a switch flipped, she'd never really been into any of it, she just wanted to spend time with me and was hiding the fact that she was miserable. So she wanted me to change who I am, more or less drop all my hobbies, etc. and be the person she wanted to be with, not myself. So we struggled with that for too many years trying to find a balance that was never there. My current gf and I have had and shared similar interests since well before we started dating, we've known each other for 12-13 years now and been a couple for about half of that, we both know full-well what we've got (I think I'm the one making out in this relationship, she's dating a 40 year old guy with the mentality of someone half his age).

Best way to get over, is to get under. It sucked for a few months to a year, depending which one in question, but life goes on and then you buy a Tacoma and dgaf and party on Garth!

Me and Sandy met on a blind date that NIETHER of us wanted to go on. Just trying to get her sister to shut up.... Niether of us had any expectations other than just get this over with.

5 minutes after we met we were finishing each others sentences.

Next day my mom asked me why I was smiling so much

A week in, we both started talking about what we were thinking about being married some day.

3 weeks in, we told her daughter and my son we would get married some day. (They both thought we were nuts)

We're 18 years into a happy marriage. Had a few bumpy spots but never any doubts.

To this day I think the secret to success is we went into this with ZERO expectations of each other. Just let it happen.
