I currently have a factory in dash 6 disc changer. I would like to get a factory radio from a newer Tacoma that plays mp3 cds or has the aux input so I can plug in my iPod and play music.

What year did they change the radios and is it even possible to put it in my truck and make it work? I very mechanically inclined and could adapt/install anything necessary to make it work. Does anyone know?

Please don't suggest to get an aftermarket radio, I don't like the look of the dash on these trucks with an aftermarket radio, plus I don't like making my truck a target for thieves.:D

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
if u want to hook up the ipod, get the USA SPEC adaptor or the ipod2car one...but the 09 is when they started the AUX port in ours and it's more then just the HU swap out.

    Nelson,
I'm also interested in the exact thing you are. I have an 08 sport model, non-JBL. I believe the head units with the auxiliary input showed up in the 09 and later models, although I cannot confirm that for sure.
I'll see if I can scour some forums here and elsewhere to determine if what you (and I) want to do, is possible. That is, to directly swap an 09+ OEM head unit (with aux input) into our pre-09 trucks.

I thought I was interested in the same thing and tried to keep it stock, but after failed attempts in locating one for a decent price, I picked up a Alpine Media Player.

My first Alpine was blue/green, it looked like shit with the rest of the dash being orange. But this alpine player is like a redish/orange, and its only a shade off, it looks great and sounds amazing. Keep looking ebay, maybe you can find the JBL set up. PS...you can buy a IPOd hook up for a factory stereo that hooks through the antenna. They are about 70.00 bucks.

Wait until you see how cheap the speakers are, they are a must to replace, but with the DIY sections here....piece of cake.

Thanks. I look forward to what you can find. I really would just be happy with a CD player that plays mp3 cds without the aux port, I currently have a 6 disc in dash changer and I get annoyed with the changing of discs all the time. Does anyone know when the mp3 cd player decks started, and are they plug and play with the 06's?

Camper top with racks, Custom fogs behind lower bumper. Interior LED lighting, Rock Lights, Hella 500s with upraged bulbs behind black billet grill, AAL, Front 5100s
You would need to mount the AUX-in headphone port somewhere or rig a hardwire beind the dash.
