This is my first post and i have searched the forum for answers but cant find any, I have a 97 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Stick Shift and i been having problems with my clutch, it gets stuck and along with the clucth getting stuck and the transmission locks up(it wont switch gears not even to neutral) the only way to get it unstuck while on the road is to pump the clutch pedal but when in traffic, so i wont cause an accident, I hold the brake causing the truck to shut off. sometimes i get to the stop light and it wont come off first gear its horrible, u have people honking and screaming causing chaos(over dramatization) and i cant help it, my thoughts are that if it has a throw out bearing maybe its getting stuck somehow or maybe their is air in the clutch line but if their was air wouldn't the pedal stay down. Please help any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like air in your clutch. Have you bled it yet?

Sounds like maybe your clutch master cylinder (or slave, mounted on the bell housing, if they still do it this way ) is worn out around the pistons inside the cylinder keeping it from building & HOLDING hydraulic pressure, i.e; its building pressure but losing it at the same time, ya got fluid &/or air leaking around both sides of the piston, not sure what kind of check valve is inside, could be a one-way or just a straight anti-reversing valve, but if no real fluid leak is present thats where I'd start, you could probably bleed it & gain a little bit back but I'm thinking one or both clutch cylinders are history or soon to be.......Good Luck....

Well if you changed it & all is good (building, holding pressure) I'm starting to think maybe 1 (or more) "fingers" on the pressure plate could be bent or broken causing this intermittant binding (where the fingers all meet against the throw out bearing, something else to consider anyway.....:eek::confused:

I'm with Doug on this one. You should probably pull the tranny and figure out what exactly is going on in there. Replace the TO Bearing and depending on the wear that is present, it might make sense to just replace the whole assembly. Friction Disk, Pressure Plate, and TO Bearing.

Take some pictures of what you find if you do decide to pull it apart. I have a really good feeling that your throwout bearing has started the self destruct process.

fixed the problem, cant believe i did not notice this when bleeding the line, yes it ended up being the master cylinder(the one running from the clutch line), replace it and now problems are gone, thanks everyone for your help and advise.
