Haha. Its all in good fun. I/we never had any problems with the Fords. They were all mechanically sound, at least ours were. I just dont need the size anymore and wanted better mileage(the best we could do in our Fords was 16mpg with our 3.5 EcoBoost Platinum 2wd). Kevin.

I didn't find that to be true for me. Most modern full size 1/2 ton's are getting over 20mpg. You can get a basic V6 F150 (non-ecoboost) or Ram V6 and get well over 20mpg. I was getting 23-24MPG in my ecoboost.

The best thing, for me, is the girth, or lack thereof. Parking and maneuvering is so much easier. Hated parking the full size truck. Could be an advantage off-road as well (depending on where you're going).

One thing of note: If you value headroom, do NOT get the sunroof. Doing it over, I would nix that option.

As I said before, as long as it can carry some building materials and able to pull my 12’ utility trailer which may be loaded with supplies to the lake, I’m good to go. We have no hills up here in manitoba, all flat. And if I’m able to launch a 22’ pontoon. Parking would be so much easier at the condo with underground parking. My ‘15 Sierra with a level kit just makes it.

i had 3 tundra crew cabs from 2007 to 2015 and do not need that big a truck anymore. i do not tow anything heavier than a 18 bass boat on rare occasion and this truck does it with no issues. I run around a lot on weekends with wife in the city and on some smaller country roads cruising and i can say the size is the 1 thing for us that is the best. It just is so much easier through some of the narrow city 4 lane streets here and two lane streets and parking in retail world in city is so much better!! Plus i am averaging 21.4 mpg after 2 months and 4500 miles on truck which is much better than i expected and a bonus for i was guessing it would be about 18. Seating position is the biggest thing i am dealing with for comfort and I am getting more used to it. So make sure you test drive for sure!

Test drove it once and will do it again next week. Gonna bring some bins and coolers with me and maybe my ice fishing sleigh to see how everything fits

I went from a 2014 F150 Crew Cab Ecoboost 2wd to my 18 Tacoma DCLB Off Road 4x4. I'm a smaller guy so i feel better in the cockpit of the Tacoma. I do miss the better gas mileage and power from the Ecoboost V6 and my kid misses the room he had in the back seat area. I had planned to buy a trailer but never got around to that. Basically used it to haul our Mountain bikes and once or twice our camping gear so I never took full advantage of what the full size truck could be used for. That being said, no regrets for me.

Well I brought the ‘18 dblcab lb home again. Brought it in the basement parkcade (condo) thinking it would be a breeze to park vs my ‘15 Sierra. No real diff. The Tacoma is almost just as long but narrower. Folded the rear seats down. It does fit a couple coolers where I can’t get one in the back of my full-size dblcab cause of the door pillar. It is fun to drive but still a tough decision.

You sure the short bed wouldn't work and get the bed extender if needed or long had a must? Short bed is lot easier. Just make sure your happy with whatever u get for sure. If short bed don't work maybe crewcab Silverado Ram f150 tundra or new titan.

The whole reason for this decision is to downsize from my ‘15 Sierra dblcab long box. Love the Tacoma, just need to be sure.

I went from a Dodge 2500 Quad Cab long box to SR5. Thought I was selling my business, and didn't need/couldn't justify another full size. A test drive was NOT an option as I wanted manual, and I wanted the utility package - hauling kids is not in my future! Had to order the truck, and I don't know who makes that process more difficult, Toyota (according to the dealer) or the dealership. Mileage is a disappointment, Dodge averaged 17.85 mpg for the first 300,000 miles, and while I didn't do the average before I sold it, it didn't get worse. 435,000 miles on one injector pump. After the Cummins, you can't use the word "torque" in the same paragraph as Toyota. How they can get such a gutless powerplant to suck so much fuel is beyond me. Tacoma will get 20+ with usual driving, and drops to 16-17 pulling a small trailer with a few hundred pounds of cargo. I am getting used to it, slowly - only 410,000 miles to go to match my old Dodge.

I have found in general the smaller trucks do no better in mpg than the big trucks. Especially the bigger diesels. That is why so many people just choose to stay or go full size for more power and comfort and room. Even cost isn't that much different if not the same to some degree with discounts. It ends up being more someone just wanting a smaller not so big truck to park and get around in the city and or if you like trails or whatever. Plus I think they are more fun to drive.
