How many of you have had this happen??? Today coming home I was dead stopped in traffic and I see im my rear view a small hatch type car flying at my and the driver doesn’t realize till the last second her tires squeal she swerves by me into the breakdown lane. It was weird it only took maybe 5 seconds but i feel like i had an hour to think of all the consequences like my totaled vehicle how bad this is gonna hurt and how this is gonna make me miss some work... I’ve never watched someone almost take me out like that and damn was it scary powerless feeling.

I immediately thought that too. I figured a big steel box was by best bet

When I was 8 or 9 years old I was in the backseat. My dad and mom in the front. Stopped at a red light. A car suddenly went through the convenience store beside us, jumped the curb, ran into their ice storage box and pushed it into us. We knew it was coming but there was nothing dad could do. It was like a slow motion movie watching it. Our car was totaled but luckily nobody was hurt. The driver of the other car was drunk as a loon.

I saw this accident happen. Big ass dodge just plowed in to the line of cars that were stopped on the freeway. When I saw what was going to happen I slowed down. I was in the in the left lane and didn't want to get caught up in the bowling pin action that was going to happen.

Around 2002 I was in bumper to bumper traffic becaus there was an accident. Of course an officer was standing there speaking to the owners of the vehicles. Traffic begins to move and then stops. Im sitting right next to the accident scene at a complete stop. The driver behind me was roughly 10 cars back. He’s begins driving along just staring at the accident. I can see him coming and not looking ahead. I literally clinch my steering wheel and wait for impact. The dude of course nails me. He later tries to blame me saying I slammed on my brakes. The officer literally laughs in his face and tells him “ I saw you ram into Mr. Saddler as he was just sitting there in traffic”.

Another bad pucker experience is on a bike at a stoplight and hearing a car skidding behind you. Took me one scare to learn to always leave in first gear to escape.

Ive had 2 that stand out to me.
The first one I was in Vermont driving some back roads near Okemo Mountain in a snow storm. I had good tires on my Honda Ridgeline at the time and was having no problems driving around. I was on a long decently steep downhill grade driving behind a vehicle at a pretty slow speed. Looking in my rear view I see a small civic type car approaching down the hill traveling much faster than me. He realizes this and brakes way to hard loosing control of the car and starts sliding sideways down the hill still closing the gap. Traffic was coming the opposite direction so i couldn't use that, and I had the lead car blocking me. At the bottom of the hill traffic in the opposing lane ended, and allowed me to punch it and race past the lead car before getting rear ended.

The 2nd, I was in a work truck sitting at a red light with a colleague. I heard the jake brake of a tractor trailer behind us, but didn't think much of it. Seconds later, the truck raced past us on the shoulder doing 40+ mph. After a second or 2, the 2 of us just looked at each other realising how lucky we were that the out of control truck driver took it up the shoulder instead of rear ending us.

1984 I was going to my after school job at a local gas station - back when they pumped gas for you... Stopped waiting to turn in and the next town over 'town drunk' slammed into me going about 40. I watched him in the rear view mirror. Nothing I could do. Pushed his engine into the firewall (V8 Dodge Diplomat) with the rear on my Pontiac Grand Prix. He got out, stumbled around, got back in his car and tried to start it to drive away. Turns out, this middle aged drunk, still lived with Mommy. It was her car. He picked it up from the body shop, stopped for a few, and totaled it.
