I bought and had installed a Cab High Snugtop. At the dealer, I remarked that it seemed the shell bowed out in the middle. When I got home, I measured it and sure enough, the middle of the shell was 3/4" wider, on each side, then the front and back. I called the dealer and told them I wasn't happy. After a few phone calls and messages that weren't returned, the dealer finally got serious and called Snugtop customer service. Snugtop replied and agreed that there is in fact a problem. They will replace my shell but it will take 4-5 months. I'm assuming they have to build a new mold. I'm not real happy that this will put that part of my build on hold. I asked my dealer if I can go ahead and mount my Yakima roof rack on top of my shell in the meantime. They will have to call Snugtop back and ask them.

I would demand a full refund and go buy something else. 4-5 months? that bs.

I do know that in the Miata world there is a Snugtop removeable hardtop out there.

It has some popularity because of being cheaper than the OE hardtop.

But I've never seen one fit right without some work. Latches are weak, shimming is needed, etc.

Have no clue if it's the same company or not. But it would certainly give me reason to consider going to another brand on a truck unit.

Was there another part of your post that you forgot to add?

Just seems like a complaint, and that you called people.

    Cool story.

Return it back to the dealer for a refund, go get another brand topper. Call around, I don’t know where you are but in the Los Angeles area, there are always 5 or 6 dealers with toppers in stock, just have to wait for paint if it’s the wrong color.

I'm just letting folks know that a Snugtop may not be the shell you would want for your Tacoma. I've bought Snugtops before and the fit was fine.

Seems that there is more bad press than good on shells by all manufacturers these days. Can't figure out why it's so hard to produce a simple fiberglass topper consistently, especially when you consider the prices they're charging for these things. It sucks because I really want one, but every time I narrow down to a specific make/model, I read nothing but horror stories of shit quality and horrible customer service. Good luck with it OP, hope it works out for you.

Well I sure do hope that my forthcoming Snugtop Xtra Vision isn't a POS. Guess I'll find out in 4 weeks

If you rely on forums or Yelp or any other internet media for reviews on products, you'll always find more complaints then praises. It's humane nature. When people are dissatisfied, they tend to want to share with as wide an audience as they can find as opposed to satisfied customers tend to tell a few people.

Beat me to it, people love to vent their frustrations. Can't really remember the last time I reviewed a product that turned out great.

That makes no sense, unless all of their previous production is bowed in the middle. Was it a Rebel?

Don't feel bad...I just got my 2nd Leer 100XR camper shell, the first one I could fit my fingers up to the middle knuckle all the way around it and the glass on the back had a 2" gap all the way around. It stuck off so bad, that it would cast a shadow all the way around it. They were very responsive and acknowledged that something was wrong, and swapped it out, had to wait another 6-8 weeks, but they threw in a carpeted headliner, power lock and drop down front glass. Overall, im very happy with it.

My Rebel took less than 2 weeks and I would describe it as nothing short of badass

Fiberglass parts like truck caps and boat hulls can deform if taken out of the mold to soon. Also how the batch of resin was mixed, there can be heat envolved if it is mixed “hot”, this method speeds up the manufacturing process . I’m waiting on my Rebel to come in, hope I get a good one.

I totally get that and agree, but due to the extremely high rate of bad reviews on these products, I've gone out to local topper dealers and viewed their inventory on hand. No denying the quality control on one topper versus another, of the same brand and model, is pathetic. Everything from crooked screws on the window frames, extra holes in frame drilled and not used, paint bubbles, pitted fiberglass, bows in the fiberglass, bent/scratched hardware, and the list goes on and on. Not saying they are all damaged, but the point is, there's no consistency on the quality of workmanship from these manufacturers, one leer will look great, and the one next too it is awful. If they stocked long bed silver toppers that I could inspect before buying, I'd do it. But to order one and hope to get a good one by luck of the draw, no thanks, I'll wait for a used one.

I wish I had known the low level of quality control. My last Snugtop was excellent and the fit and finish were great. BTW, love your avatar. I have a '15 FJR1300A. Best bike I've ever owned.

I don't know if it was auto correct or fat fingers.
