    @OVTune

Mat - I know you can't control what Micro Soft does - hopefully the Windows 10 updates won't prohibit future Tune up dates for dongel-less. Any thoughts (continued updates to Tunes) if that happens?

That is exactly what I expected and us dongel-less (soon to be) users wanted to hear. Thanks!

What do you all mean when you say dongleless? It seems you are still using a cable, so what does dongle mean to you?

dongel was the "usb stick" for the tune software. dongel-less uses a software download from a server so you can access current and upgrade tunes. both use an obd/usb cable connection for the interface between the vehicle and computer.

Went back to 1.03/87 after trying 1.04/91 then 1.04/87. Much peppier with better low/mid response. Truck feels 1000lbs lighter. Gets to 70mph quicker at partial throttle and easier to maintain speed on highway.

The only difference is the software only version doesn't come with the adapter. And you buy the adapter there. It's the only one they sell on that link. You're just making 2 purchases instead of one. I ordered both a couple days ago.

Hey folks, I've been quietly following the various OVTune threads with the intent of eventually taking the plunge. I noticed the OVTune website has been updated, so I went poking around and found, in the terms and conditions area, the following:

"ALL Ecu tunes, Calibrations, flashes, files, datalogs, or anything in regard to the tune, tuning process, changes, are for OFF-ROAD USE ONLY NEVER TO BE USED ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY. THIS COVERS ALL ASPECTS OF THE TUNE, STAGE1,2,3 AND ANYTHING NOT SPECIFICALLY COVERED IN THIS SECTION. AT NO TIME CAN OUR ECU CALIBRATION FILES, OR TUNES BE USED ON A PUBLIC HIGHWAY OR PUBLIC ROAD. OUR TUNES AND FILES CANNOT BE USED IN ANY WAY TO CIRCUMVENT EMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS WHERE YOU LIVE FOR ANY REASON. THIS REGARDS ALL ENGINES, ALL ECUS, ALL FILES REGARDLESS OF CAR, MAKE, MODEL ETC. THE SERVICE CHARGE FOR TUNING IS SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR ECU FOR TRACK AND OFF ROAD CONDITIONS ONLY. By purchasing one of our tunes or calibration files, or anything from us, you agree to these terms without bias or conflict."

This "for off-road use only never to be used on public highway" verbiage is in several sections (the "Aftermarket" and "Tuning Liability" section). Is this just CYA legal stuff....?

Yes. Almost every company does this. The steel bumpers and Cali Raised lights and almost every mod you do says the same thing.

Yeah, ok, I figured as much. Can't hurt to double check though :)

Ok I have been reading through a lot of pages here and on the other post as well as facebook. I am almost ready to pull the trigger and had a couple extra questions, nicely some were answered in this post.

After purchasing everything, do you get all future releases (if applicable) for free, just need to download them when available? What happens if you put in a different octane compared to your tune, will the truck still run, just not have the same performance? Is the software still tie to a single computer or is it easy enough to switch computers later if I have to? I only ask because I do not have a windows laptop so I was going to use one from work, but that laptop could go away at some time in the future or get a new image/OS on it. What happens if flash doesn't work, is truck still drive able or is it, for lack of better terms, dead until you can re-flash it correctly?

I have read a lot of positive things and even though the software and OBDII connector are pricey together, it sounds like this is ever so worth it.

Yes - I've been a customer for nearly a year and have gotten every new update without a hitch. You join a club and get all the benefits of membership once you buy!

The rule is, you can always put higher octane than the tune, but never lower. You can run the 87 tune and run 91 octane in there and be fine though you won't get the full power and value out of the expensive fuel. If you have the 91 tune and pump 87 it will cause knock which will cause the ECU to pull timing dramatically which will severely impact drivability and can cause damage. It's be like putting 83 octane in the tank that was engineered for 87...

I can't speak to the laptop stuff since I'm one of those who still has to use a dongle.

The serial number is generated off your unique computer. So it's best that you use something you own. If you replaced the computer, Matt can generate a new serial number for you. I used a Surface 3 tablet with the latest kit on mine and it worked fine.

the "dongle" was the original way they went out, it's a small nano receiver USB device, the size you'd get
with a wireless mouse or keyboard and insert into a USB slot.

When I bought my truck last month, they made me sign a document that I wouldn't alter it anyway to change the emissions. My first thought was "WTH? Why do you give a damn what I do with my truck". My second thought was "whatever dude, I'm tuning this bitch".
