I wouldn't be so sure. It all depends if Mat is willing to release two different bin/hex files for every release. Not talking about different ECU version, or octane fuel, but encryption.

Type one: dongle, same bin/hex file for all customer.
Type two: no dongle, encrypted, every file is unique to that customer. Much more difficult to "hack".

If Mat really want to protect his IP, and streamline his release process, I can see him moving everyone to no dongle. I hope not, because I like the option to use different laptop down the road, without having to send Mat new system ID.

Good. Dongleless sucks in my opinion.

I sent @OVTune an email to their new support email address asking about whether the dongles will be supported going forward or if we will all need to move to dongle-less. I'll post the response here when I get a response.

That’s one of my questions and concerns as well as I usually upgrade computers every couple of years and plan on keeping the truck a lot longer than my laptop. Hopefully there is a system in placebo to transfer to a new computer once you upgrade.

    Mat?

PS: loving the tune so far, currently running 1.04 87 and it’s doing great with the camper. Can’t wait to try the 91 tune :)

    Yikes,

Thank goodness I have the old dongle then! (that's NOT what she said)! I hope you can still offer dongles or some other solution to those who go through computers every couple years but I plan to keep the Taco for much much longer than that.

I wonder if it's only tied to the motherboard (like Windows is) or will OVTune stop working if I do a simple fresh install of Windows (which I do about every year for various reasons)?

customers who originially have dongles can keep and continue to use them.

customers who have dongle-less software and need to migrate the software to a different pc need only to let me know..

check the other alpha ovtune thread.... MicroSoft updates won't prevent Mat from providing and supporting updates to the Tune...so dongel-less actually may become easier and quicker than dongel version.

I believe the TCU files are all the same. The ECU IDs are specific. Almost everything is in the ECU files and only a few minor things are in the TCU. at least from what I’ve read from Mat’s posts. Hell, I’ve even ran the 1.03 ECU file with the stock TCU file for a while just to see how it was.

The biggest difference I felt was when driving in the S gears. The 1.03 TCU file has the torque converter engaged on gears 1-3 as the stock files doesn’t. You can definitely tell the difference.

@OVTune how do those of us with dongles obtain FlashManger with the latest files going forward? Do we use the link on page 1 of this thread (even though it states It’s for dongle-less only)?

Ok. It must have been some of your other magic then cause I could definitely feel a response difference in the S gears between the two. Never going back stock! Lol.
What really is on the TCU file?

Hope you’re having a good weekend!
