Stuck installing Daystar spacer on 5 lug

    Hey all. Stuck here after failing to install spacer lift. Decided to abort. But couldn't get the spring to compress enough with floor jack without lifting off the jack stand. Thinking I may need to try and get coil completely out to compress and insert. Thoughts? Lost daylight and will have to start in the am.

    You need a coil compressor, the kind for coils and not struts so it does throgh the center of the coil. What kind of coils are those though?
    This is the kind of compressor you need

    Also btw welcome to TW and there is a 5lug section here with lots of info about 5lug tacoms, you might want to try posting in there. Here is primarily 6lug guys

    You can likely rent the tool for free at your local auto parts store... They take a "deposit" for the cost of the tool, so you could technically keep it, but they're usually pretty beat up. Just return it for a full refund. = FREE!!!

    @Sperrunner Honestly I have no idea what the coils are. My buddy and I put them in 5yrs ago, I know they were beefier than the stock ones because they were a pain to compress and get in.

    I actually ended up getting the coil spring out by using the spring compressor from Auto zone, and taking a tube jack upside down to the upper control arm and basically cranked against the wheel well to unload the spring even more. After a couple FU hammer hits it popped out.

    The spring compressor you sent look way more efficient and less bulky. Now the issue is getting the spring back in without the bars from compressor getting stuck on everything.

    Yes i had that same issue as you with the ones you are using i ended up cutting the compressor shorter then also having to use a pry bar. That is why i said get the other one

    Yeah I'm gonna stop by Autozone and see if they have that model.

    I'm at the point where I need to just get the spindle off the upper control arm. I think that will give me some more room to play with.

    What i did was left the LBJ arrached to the spindle and just detached the UBJ and just stepped down on the LCA which gave more some more room

    Yeah I didn't expect the LCA to want to rest at the up position, thought it would just droop and hang down. I guess thats the process of learn by doing!

    Did a bit of research on detaching the UBJ. Do you prefer the pickle fork or just a few good smacks with a hammer/mallet?

    4small bolts on the UCA and you can slide out the whole UBJ assembly and not even have to separate it from the spindle. Also disconnect the sway bar

    That did the trick. Still couldn't make the spacer fit compressed the springs till they were basically touching. But the angle was a little off which made it impossible.

    Not sure why I didn't think of this earlier...

    You should loosen the lower control arm bolts - the ones with the alignment cams. Since the bushings are rubber, they aren't free floating, so the rubber twists when the LCA moves up and down which requires quite a bit of force. Loosen the bolts just enough so the LCA moves. Set it down under its own weight and tighten them back up. This will "reset" the "neutral" position of the bushings to your new ride height.

    Pickle fork if you are replacing them, because you can damage them. A hammer sometimes works, though it never seemed to work for me. I've used a 3-arm universal puller on my 6 lug with great success. Can't remember if that'd work on the 5 lug, though.
