Needle Bearing Failure With Lift (How Many)

Well I’m a regular schmuck but the guys who are helping me are quite a bit more skilled. Not TOYOTA but one of them is a professional mechanic. I’ll send him a YouTube link and see if he thinks it’s in his wheel house he generally works on BIG stuff.

I know if you're near Raleigh NC you can take it to ECGS and have it done for less than $200.

 

I’m in upstate NY, I’ll be in NC at least twice this year for Overland Expo East in Nov as well as some OBX camping in August.

 

What does the vibration feel like? Would I know 100% if I had it or not? will 2.5in OME lift here, and unsure if I have an issue or not.

 

1. Does it vibrate in 2wd?
2. Does it not vibrate in 4wd?
3. If yes then fix.
4. If not then enjoy your truck and wait for #1.

 

I understand. But what exactly is meant by vibration. What should that fell like outside of normal driving?

 

Does your steering wheel shake and do you feel a thrumming in the floor and pedal? If so does it go away in 4hi?

 

anybody have the needle bearing tool in SF bay area?

 

I wonder what it could be if it doesn't go away in 4wd

 

possibly drive shaft vibes from new angles. diff drop or carrier bearing drop?

edit: tire balance? alignment?

 

Steering wheel shake. No. Slight thrumming here and there in vehicle, maybe. Nothing noticed in the pedal.

 

Could also be due to the aggressive tread of new tires with increased camber, may smooth out more with wearing in.

 

I noticed you're in VA Beach, I'm in Chesapeake.

If you ever decide to do it you can drive down to Raleigh NC and have the ECGS guys do the install for less than $180.00 total or buy the parts and have Eastern Offroad do it for about $235. I'll even loan you the tools to provide them for the work.

 

Just lifted my 2015 First thing I noticed was that at the 40 MPH range i got this weird kinda wharping sound/ vibration very faint but I can feel it in the steering wheel, pedals, and floor the truck has 50k miles on it and was fine before. I did a minor 2.25-2.5 inch front lift and 2 inch rear lift. Any idea why the needle bearing went back immediately ? Also is it worth having the dealer fix the problem or would there parts cause this issue to happen again? Thank you for any help

 

If my truck is under warranty will they cover it?

 

This might sound dumb but TSB? is that the rear leaf recall or?

Second gen here as well. Took mine in some time ago too and got the whole "can't reproduce" from the dealer and they tried charging me a $200 diag. I even printed them out the TSB for their reference. I ended up just doing the ECGS swap with some members at a local meetup/workshop day. Truck has been smooth with no vibes ever since.

 

I installed ECGS soon after lifting the truck but had terrible vibes coming g through the steering wheel while not in 4wd after lift/before needle bearing. It's pretty much a necessity if you want to have a lift and enjoy riding in your truck still
