Also I rerouted my elocker switch yesterday. It didn’t fit under the ashtray very well, to many wires, and it kept popping the little panel out and vibrating. Put it in the stock location.

I had the same issue with my barracuda. Had to do a lein sale at my dad's friends shop but actually the car just stayed at my dad's house. Once it was over I was the legal owner and they mailed me the title.

This is something I really need to get around to doing. I can't believe I haven't tweaked mine yet.

Is this the common point of failure? I always thought it was bending them.

How do these joints usually fail? I figured the ball worked itself loose and popped out. Mine sheared the shaft. The ball was still up inside. I don't know how failure of the LBJ shaft itself can be predicted except maybe by age or xray, but take a look at this cross section:

Is the ball sloppy inside causing more stress on the stud?

Interesting idea. It's a little hard to tell since it sheared flush with the ball so not much to grab on to, but, no, the ball seems pretty firmly stuck in the casting.

Such as the ball joint geometry is off due to lift?

Such as having ball joint failure. I've replaced hundreds of these and the trueth is 80% of the time ball joint failure is due to neglectful care of the truck. 15% is lifting it and running tires past it's capacity. And the last 5% is people slamming cheap parts on their lifter over size tire rigs. Guys please stop buying cheap parts. Your ifs suspentisu will live longer even with bigger tires . Or just solid axle swap .

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the ball joint debate on here.

    Are we getting it started?

No...this is an IFS vs SAS debate. Had some rock crawlers checking out my rig 2 weeks ago. Told them my plans and they said i should save my money and keep her as is. Rides better and very capable. One tons and 40s still sound appealing. Necessary? Prob not
