It's not quite that long. I do it in less than 8 (with two toddlers in the car). Unless you're hooking up with the Phoenix guys to caravan, I'd suggest you go the Globe to Showlow route to where it kicks you out by Gallup. It's a pretty drive and faster than the Phx route.

I get down to Tucson at least once a year. I was just there in March and I'll be back in late July. My uncle is the GM of the El Conquistador resort on the north end of town.

 

Oh, by the way, 10 minutes travel time for me!

Well this place will be able to give you one hell of a test on your IFS. The basis of comparison will be hard to beat but if you start early, I certainly understand.

SAS on a 2nd gen is fairly unchartered territory. There's only a handful of them out there, correct? Are you copying a previously done one? What axle are you using? I'd love to hear all the details you have worked out.

 

Wait a minute. You're not even SAS'ing the Tacoma. Duh!

 

SWEEEEEET!!! I can't wait to see/hear more about it. I can't totally understand why people trip so hard on doing it to an 05+. There is no reason it should be any harder (by SAS standards) than most any other modern IFS truck.

 

I've actually been considering buying an old F350. They come with a big V8 and 1 ton solid axles. I'd take the bed, doors, and any other extra stuff off. Then I'd bob the rear of the frame and shorten the wheelbase by a good 2 feet, chop any possible frame sticking out the front and rear, build a cage, lock the axles, improve the suspension, slap some big rubber on there, and voila!

 

I just recently started tossing around the idea so i haven't given too much thought to pros and cons. I was looking on ebay and seeing 1990ish F350's that look good and supposedly run well going for $4000-$6000.

 

I have an 85 F-350 Diesel that just sits. We bought a new one, and parked the old one.

Just sayin I got one, cept it's in Oklahoma right now.

I'm going to go get another tire tomorrow for my spare. Just gonna put another one of my tires on my old wheels. Should be good. Hopefully one will do me.

 

I think one spare is just about all any of us have.

 

Oh, I'll have 2 full sized spares.

That's mostly because no shop carries my size and if something happens it could take a couple days to get one.
