Alright so got mine all installed today. Doesn’t work. I put clear plastic to protect the sensor and wondering if maybe that’s a problem? Like it reflects or something?

It has worked once or twice, but mostly keeps giving me a warning saying the sensor needs to be cleaned. Once it didn’t give an error, but adaptive cruise wasn’t working, even when it said it was.

Ideas? Should I try to run with no plastic protection?

Try a solid black plastic... the Factory Grill that had the emblem and the oem garnish are both solid black. You can also run try and run it without a plastic cover but the sensor will be exposed.

Thanks. I’ll try without anything just to see if it works. I have a 2017 OEM grille installed by the dealer when I bought my truck. They said it would work, but made me sign a waiver. They left the sensor with no plastic protection.

Mine deactivated with a 2018 OEM grille and the garnish in extremely heavy rain as well. I've had zero issues in 600 miles except that one time and it reactivated itself after a period once the rain let up.

Snow will cause deflection of the signal to some degree so I'd expect to have issues with or without in that case.

Replaced the cover with black plastic rather than clear. Also noticed that the sensor was pointing down a bit, so fixed that too. Tested it and worked.

So couple tips from me. No clear plastic protective cover and make sure it is aimed correctly.

Meaning what exactly. How do you know your's is aimed correctly other than the errors went away? How did you adjust it to make it point up? Etc... All questions people will be thinking, but may not ask.

Finally got my grill, well, should be delivered tomorrow. This was the golden ticket for me, good deal too compared to what I was finding on other toyota parts sites. Grill and garnish, $257 shipped. Used a VIN from another member that they got from autotrader. Much love to weezykid, xsquid, and tacosrus for the help! Edit: I should mention they took a week or so to verify the VIN, they stayed in contact with me the whole time though saying that they been having trouble from Toyota.

Good points but unfortunately I spoke too soon. Did a 12 hour drive today, and the sensor kept failing (I got a “need to clean sensor” error). PCS also out when that happens. Each time I restarted the truck, it would work for 20 minutes or so, then fail. I’m at a loss, other than I think I will get the garnish and see if that fixes it.

Agreed. Just made the trip from Dallas, TX to Orange Beach, AL yesterday. It was a very nice feature.

I’ll be heading to Moab tomorrow, see how it goes. I’ve never tried the adaptive cruise control. Are you from Dallas? I’m down in Austin.

Yep. Lived in Austin for a while but I’m in Dallas now.

My only advice on the control is to hit the radar button on the steering wheel to dial down the distance from 3 bars to 1. With that setting you are golden for many miles. Just change lanes and ride the + / - as needed.

Just installed mine tonight I got with the 20% eBay coupon last week.
Everything arrived in perfect condition, really happy with the fit and finish- no crooked letters or anything.
This is what I picked up https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-In...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
figured another $10 was worth the positive reviews vs a wildcard.
Used the lisence plate bracket method to protect the TSS- will drive around tonight and report on functionality!

Drove couple hundred miles and no issues. Used the Toyota garnish piece and added the longer wire for clean install.

So I purchased a garnish piece from a local dealership, but haven't installed it yet...still have the black plastic glued to the inside of the honeycomb. Of course, since I purchased it, the radar has been working flawlessly. Over the past couple of days, it would fail every time I drove. Now this evening, I drove around 50 miles total and it didn't fail once. :annoyed: I will probably install the garnish anyway, but now am a bit scared to mess with it, now that it works lol.

To answer an earlier question, there is a small screw on the top of the sensor. I realized when I screwed that tightly, it tilted the sensor to point downwards. So I adjusted by putting washers in and eyeballed it looking straight ahead. Hopefully you can tell in this picture what I mean. Top silver screw has 4 washers between the sensor bracket and the mount.

    Amazing install instruction OP!
And great garnish work around @Six8kupe!
I recently picked up a trd pro grill and of course had the same concern as everyone else.
If I had to get it recalibrated it at dealership, i was qouted for 4 hours @$100/hr. (Crazy, isn’t that something).
Or order the $55+ garnish off eBay.
After the initial install, the pcs sensor quickly got disabled within the first half mile of every drive.
I found a piece of hard plastic (not quite sure what kind of material) laying around the garage. And pretty much mounted down the sides. (As shown below)
    CC7581F2-6E5A-4BC8-933A-E4B53276ADA8.jpg
    54415DD0-4F60-4697-A48C-7C4C32ADA7D5.jpg
Since the install, everything works perfectly. Pcs sensor doesn’t go off! Drove it the other day over 100+ miles, using the adaptive cruise and lane assists and all was good!
Best part of it all, it didn’t cost me anything!
    Thanks again for the tip!

So did a quick drive yesterday, and had the "clean radar" error come up a couple times and cruise wouldn't work. D'oh!
Going to give it a couple more days, see if it improves. Next step is to add the washers like I saw above.

One thing to note, is that I just let the black plastic friction fit, and it can move ever so slightly. I'm wondering if any slight movement of the cheapo-garnish is causing errors.

Looks like the next post after me glued it in and didn't have too many issues.

If washers don't help, I'll probably glue it in, then cave on the garnish.

    Fingers crossed- stay tuned!
