Traded my Sport a/t for an Off Road m/t!

Well, after living for three months with an auto sport truck, I just couldn't take it any more -- I traded over the weekend for a 6 speed off road, and I couldn't be happier

I remember when almost all Tacomas had manual transmissions, but it seems that the majority of the access and double cabs now come with the auto box. Nothing against anyone that has an auto and likes it, but I just didn't like the way it shifted. I'm now back in control with the 6 speed, and I love the new color -- traded BSP for Silver Streak.

Oh, and thanks to everyone on TW, my first stop was to the tire dealer, where I ditched the BFG Open Country's, and picked up a set of Cooper Discoverer ATR 265/75 r16's. I love the tires, and the extra inch added to the truck's height and wheel wells looks fantastic.

And another thanks to TW -- before I bought the truck, I had the dealer agree to perform the rear suspension TSB. They told me no problem -- just wait about a week, call in, and "complain" about the harsh ride, and the parts would be ordered...

i did just the opposite.
Traded my 09 Off Road MT for a '10 Sport Auto.
I did it because I have some back issues and pushing the clutch wasnt helping my back. I miss driving the MT, I still havent gotten use to the Auto Trans, shifting patterns, etc.
Totally changes the way you drive isnt it?

 

Congrats on the trade. sounds like you got exactly what you wanted...nothing better than that kind of satisfaction.

I didnt know OffRoads came with BFG Open Countrys I thought the only came with BFG Rugged Trails.

 

Wow - funny that you made the same trade in the opposite direction... The auto definitely would be easier on the back -- the clutch is pretty stiff in my truck, but I love the way it feels.

It absolutely does change the way I drive -- I was so used to a m/t, that I found myself searching for a clutch every time I started the other truck! I'm wondering about mileage too, b/c the manual tranny is rated lower than the auto box..maybe that's just the way the EPA testers drove the vehicle though. I averaged anywhere from 14.5 to 18.5 on the auto truck for mostly city driving. Oh well, mileage really wasn't a priority when I bought the truck anyway :0)

 

Damn - my mistake! They were Rugged Trails... I don't think BFG "Open Country's" even exist

Thanks! Yeah, I just couldn't see paying that much for a truck, and not having exactly what I wanted. Plus, I shopped two other dealers before going back to the dealer that sold me the truck, and the other two didn't offer me anything close to what the original dealer did on trade-in.

I have found the MPG is about the same, just slightly better in the auto, because it barely revs over 2000 rpms.
Thats what I dont like about it.
I miss the MT because you shift when you it when you want to, downshift in when cornering etc.
The Auto feels so much slower than the manual. Its like you have to stomp the gas to get it to shift into a lower gear, and you have to use the brakes a lot more.
This is the first Auto I have ever owned. I didnt realize how different my driving would be. Autos are easy to drive, and way easier on my back, but you just dont have as much control.

Lol the images showed but... here's all you gotta do.

right click the image in picasa "copy image url" or whatever your browser's phrase for that is.

Then on TW, click the yellow/grey icon that has a mountain and moon in it (image icon). A dialog box will appear, paste the image URL in it... and enjoy.

The code (unless your'e in firefox it'll just show it anyway) will look like this (at least in Chrome)

That picture wasn't taken in Oregon was it? Looks like Neahkahnie mountain viewpoint.

 

Indeed it was on the Oregon coast (though exactly where and the name I couldn't tell ya lol. It was north of Tillamook a bit I think.

Yup, thats Neahkahnie mountain! You're overlooking manzanita in that photo. I grew up a few minutes from there!

 

Awesome, it's a nice place... Oregon coast is beautiful. I still prefer good old AZ over Oregon though... for some reason the place is just depressing as hell to me (I guess the 7 months of non stop "rain" doesn't help lol). Hillsboro is also a far cry from the coastal areas though.


Also, sorry 'bout the thread jack OP. TRD Off-Road > Sport for sure Functionality over looks I say.
