i think it could be fun as well! there's just over 200ac total...about 90% is forested. if you are just south of cincy...it would be right around 3hrs...maybe a bit more considering the tow. LOL no, you wouldn't have much luck launching off the bank! we have a sandbar right off our lot though...

i do have a tractor that we could use :) i'm pretty sure there's a ramp about a mile down river at Green Acres gas station...just gotta make sure it's still open. normally i would suggest the ramp at the local boat club that's up river from me...but the lock between our lot and it is down for the summer.

not sure about any dates yet...i may try to get that dozer over memorial day weekend...i'll be a lot closer to being ready after that. one thing i thought of about your boat though...is there any permit or anything you would need to get since your registered in KY? or is it like a car...as long as it's registered...you're good?

    teaser pics:

A boat is like a car, as long as it is registered you can take it anywhere. My boat/truck are registered in Ohio. When I bought the truck new I lived in Batavia, then moved back to KY, and never changed the registration. Its much cheaper to register auto/boat in Ohio saves me a couple hundred dollars a year. You have some great pictures, you have a very nice piece of land. It would be awesome to have land on a river. How challanging are your trails? You have many? June looks good for me, July is a little busy for me, I have a few trips planned.

i would say late June might work. the trails are actually pretty tame for the most part, as long as the weather is dry...they can be slick when wet. not much mud either. the main challenges i have are some of the hills and there are a few tight spots. there aren't many "pucker spots", but they are fairly "scenic" we have tons of trails running all over the place, but many are dead ends due to terrain. there are a few loops, and i have a creekbed that's kinda fun to play in. i really would like to finish "the connector" trail before i would host anything...it'd be a lot of fun. it's a trail i've been making to connect the two large tracts of property we have. it is slightly challenging in a couple spots. i have about 150 yards and one big ass hill to go yet to get it finished...i've been working from both sides trying to get it connected. last time i worked on it, i got the dozer hung up  and gave up on it for a while. i was trying to work uphill...whereas when i have the dozer next time, i'll start on the high side and work my way down. these trails are excellent for someone who wants to do some offroading, but doesn't want to tear up their truck. they are for the most part very wide...like drive a semi on them wide. don't have to worry about custom pinstripes from branches and they are all groomed regularly with a grader blade.

    do work:

thank you. i take great pride in them. a lot of work goes into keeping them nice.

^ Well it looks like it would be fun. Your trails are much better than mine. Mine are more or less connecting points a and b, whereas yours are actually trails. Both can be fun. It looks like you are making great progress. I dont have access to any machinery so that only thing I can used to my chainsaw, and driving over it a bunch. It would be nice if enought people would be interested to get a meet together. Let me know if you have any dates in mind b/c I dont want to have the meets over lap.

yes i am very lucky, and thank you. i feel very privilaged to have this chunk of land. no, no reloading...it's my initials

thank you...there may be a chance to check it out in person in the near future ;)

once again, thank you. this property means quite a lot to me. my family is by no means wealthy. my dad aquired it through inheritance from his uncle about 40 years ago. we are very lucky to still be able to hang onto it. damned real estate taxes never seem to go down  a couple years ago i stumbled upon some help through our Soil & Water conservation services office. after a little paperwork, and a day in the field with a state forester, we are now qualified as CAUV (agricultural valuation) tax value that reduced the annual taxes tremendously...without it, we would've probably had to sell some in order to keep any of it. in return for the tax credit, we are required to be good stewards of the land...which is what we have always been anyways. this means that we are constantly trying to improve and protect the forest. control of invasive species is one of the state's biggest interests. i have chopped literally thousands of wild grapevines and actually just spent 2 hours bushogging a bunch of bush honeysuckle this afternoon :D alanthis trees are next on my hit list  it's actually a really cool program that can only make your woods better...as long as you don't mind doing a little work. they check on you every five years or so to make sure you are following your Forrest Stewardship Plan. yes, we do cut timber, but it is done with much care.

i will be spending practicly all my weekends getting things "whipped back into shape" down there. i have almost all the bushogging finished for spring after 6 hours today. i still have a few roads that need some attention as far as grading and pruning, but they'll be done soon.
weather permitting, i'll have a Rayco mini crawler next weekend to get the long time in the making "super" trail finished. what is standing (laying) literally in my way is a white oak tree that i'd guess is about 150 yrs old. it was a gnarly old beast that none of the loggers have ever wanted. it decided to make it's final resting place right down the middle of a trail that i don't have any bypasses for (of course). this is what my day has in store for me tomorrow :D i'll try to remember to take some pics and upload them.

i love it when i can share my most prized posession with others, and am trying to get organized and prepared to do so with you all. just know in advance, if you decide to come up that this will be a "tread lightly" off road event and i will expect everyone to treat our woods and trails with respect. lol...i sound like a crotchety old man. just know....it's a bitch getting deep ruts graded out and if they aren't addressed directly, the small ruts turn into very large ones and erode lots of soil in just a couple rains. i don't mind a little tire spinning...i just don't like excessive destruction that isn't neccesary.

it may be an event of epic proportions if MAX decides to bring up his boat! we can go wheelin in the morining and cruise the river in the afternoon...awesome! shooting is also an option, but i don't really have anywhere that you can take many long shots.

it's possible that i may throw you all invites for the end of june. if not june, then i'm thinking late summer...maybe mid-august? sorry that i can't nail down any dates as of yet...still getting things ready. i will be sure to keep you all updated on progress...speaking of which, my dad & nephew put our docks in today :woot: oh yeah...MAX...the boat ramp IS open...checked last night after my stakeout. its' $4 to use the ramp. the stakeout was to try to catch some bastards that have been tearing up one of my right-of-ways. no luck last night...but i'll catch those fuggers!

thanks again all for the kind comments. it's nice to know the effort doesn't go unnoticed.

^ Thats great that you can be apart of such a great program. You really do put a lot of work into this land. I wish I had more time to spend on my property to make it better, but unfortunatly it take 35-40 min to get there and working full time and going to school full time doesn't leave me much free time. Thats awesome that the boat ramp is open. Whenever date you decide I will def. bring the boat. As long as we can get enough people together it could turn into one amazing weekend. Thanks for the update.

    All Clean, still hasn't settled.

ugh. got that tree outta my way today...now i'm whooped. i took some pics, but forgot my camera on the tractor  it kinda turned out cool...the trail now has a huge branch that i couldn't reach going over top of it. it's like 16 feet off the ground, so i said to hell with trying to cut it...nothing i have will come close to touching it. pretty muddy today...even the mighty-mite Kubota 4x4 was struggling to get up the big hill.

i know how it is to live away from your land. ours is about a 15-20 min. drive from home. it would be so much easier to do stuff if i could walk out my back door and get after it. i got lots done this weekend...feeling pretty good about it :) planning to do some brushogging ( the stuff beyond the gigantor tree that i couldnt get to) and then taking the tractor up to town to wash it. i got it pretty muddy yesterday and today.

you might want to see what programs are available for your land...i don't know about the stuff in KY...but i'll bet there is landowner assistance. ex: the state may reimburse or pay you outright to plant trees or do drainage work. it's worth looking into a bit...seriously.
