What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

That’s the 4Runner radiator going in a Tacoma?
From another post said you had to modify the radiator to fit?
Did you have to modify the inlet or outlet or radiator cap section or
just remove the hood support rod and you were good?

 

Yea I threw another set of oem Toyota ball joints on the next day

Like when the third cam seal deformed yet again and was used anyway. And the new idler bearing that started to squeal almost immediately and started to smoke the belt and then there was the #2 timing belt cover that had to be mounted 3 times because bolts were cock-blocked....

 

Both my engines have timing chains, this is something that makes me happy as I fall asleep at night haha. Sounds like you got it sorted out though. Did you do the redheads belt or just the two dans'

 

I was just a spectator/observer/documentor. Was great fun but a very long day.

 

AGREE!! It would be very nice to have an architecture to get to the general categories. I find it very tedious to try to use the search feature.

I ordered it for the Tacoma . And the only modifications I had to make to the radiator was because of my aftermarket bumper. The rest went in like a glove. I read the post about having to modify the fan shroud but that wasn't the case with this one .

Cool good to know, that added 4” will definitely keep the truck cooler at idle when it’s 100 degrees outside or crawling
so the filler cap section did not hit the hood or hood stick? What year is your truck?
Tacoma had the early hood then the later hood.
The 4Runner radiator is taller in the Champion design

 

Yeah it's close to the hood for sure

 

That's been up on their website for at least a couple months now.

 

There is a thread somewhere explaining the different design between Moog and OEM.

Hmm. I don't know much about LBJs except that we should use OEM and that there's a factory that pumps them out solely for Monte. I wouldn't mind writing something up, but it'll have to wait until I'm done with my next two: A How-To on Route Planning, and "Why you should wash your engine bay before changing the timing belt."

... you get the picture. It's going to be a fun day to write up. Actually, things went quite smoothly even though it was a long day. Super glad I did it myself, and that there were three of us around to add confidence!

I spend one day working my truck / day drinking and I have to roll back ten pages to find where I was being an asshole last.
Anyway .I've seen tons and tons of cheap parts break in unconventional ways. Like an cv axle that twisted off the stub shaft inside the differential. I'm not just talking about toyota here I'm talking about Chevy Ford Dodge .pretty much anything with 4wd that the land management will go out and fully use. Last month I had to rebuild a front end cuz the shocks separated and snapped the upper ball joints in half just like your lowers did. That was abuse to itls fullest. In your case if you weren't running cheap parts then I'll say this sometimes there are defects in the casting of part and they fail I hate to say it but you can only buy higher grade parts and pray they are what their reputation was built on.

 

I was checking daily when I lived in Encinitas, figures one pops up after I leave. Looks good

 

I need some help diagnosing a problem. I was getting crazy vibrations on the highway and a faint smell of burning brakes from the back, but only sometimes. When it was vibrating I would pull to the side of the road, stop completely then start driving again and it would go away for awhile then come back. I got in and manually adjusted my brake shoes off and am not using my e-brake so they don't try to self adjust again and now I have no vibrations and no burning brakes. I'd like to fix this but I'm in the middle of nowhere wyoming, so resources are faint. Just wondering if any of y'all have ever had this happen and what the issue could be/how I can fix it? I'm lost
