How do you secure for freeway driving and pizza stops? Any chain or lock to recommend?

Ask some of your local bike shops. They probably know of someone.

Glad you were safe after that, but still pretty cool to witness them in their natural element.

Morning all. I have a set of kbvoodoo hi rise bed bars, and I'm looking for a simple bike mount to attach to them. Probably one where I take the front wheel off. Do you guys have a recommendation? Thank you.

Hoping to get some advice on a fork service.

I sent my 2014 Fox Float Factory 34 in to Fox to get it serviced. They called and said I need to get the air side replaced and there's also a 3mm diameter nick on the stanchion that goes in and out of the seal which could be a potential leak. I sanded that nick to be smooth about a year ago, but it's still an indentation.

    They gave me two options:
    1. Do the standard service and replace the air side for $220 (can't fix the nick).
    2. Let them keep my fork and get a bran new 2019 for a reduced price of $700. Street price seems to be $892.

Do you think $700 is a good deal for this or should I just stick with my 2014 fork for ~$500 less.

    My bike is a 2014 Pivot Mach6.

Well, the "finance guy" part of me says $220 is a lot less than $700, BUT upgrading to a much newer fork with potentially better internals for $500 extra seems like a good deal. Kind of a tough one.

I suppose the real deciding questions are "Were you looking at new forks beforehand?" and "When will I likely upgrade to a new bike?"

If the first question's answer is no, I'd just get the service and be done with it. Doesn't sound like it bothered you at all before you sent it in. Use that money for the bike fund, or go on a riding vacation.

If the second question's answer is "imminent/soon", maybe upgrade the fork now and then just buy a new frame and build out your next ride with it.

^^^ One other variable on the above is boost. I assume the 2014 fork and your existing wheel are not boost, so is it worth getting a new fork that won’t be compatible with most new wheels, if you ever decide to keep the fork and do a frame upgrade. In fact, will the 2018 fork fit your current hub? It’s a slippery slope ....

Good point. Wasn't thinking of the standards change. Although I believe boost adapters can overcome some challenges (IDK, never had to use them)

Hmm, those are good considerations. I forgot about boost too.

I wasn't particularly looking to upgrade soon, but now that the option is presented I'm feeling the impulse.

Looks like wolf components sells a boost adapter for $25, so not too bad, I'll do a bit of research on that.

I'm trying to save upgrade money for my Tacoma and gaming computer, but if I do upgrade my bike in the next couple of years, this would eliminate a very expensive component. I doubt I'd get much for a 2014 fork with a nick in the stanchion.

And that's true, I have to think of it as ~$500 more instead of 'forking out' the full $700.

The initial $200 for the service is a sunk cost regardless so it really is only $500 at the end of the day.

Fox used to only have a handful of Factory orange forks they would give out to the elite DH riders. Then they decided to give them out to all the factory sponsored riders (enduro, XC, DJ). Then the masses wanted to be cool too, and Fox started selling the orange forks to the masses as a stand alone item. Only OEM specced bike with the orange forks I know of are the Team Replica Yetis for 10K.

Rockshox started doing the same for their team people with red lowers. Its only a matter of time before they show up on the market for us commoners.

Yeah, I think that the yellow stripes are the only remaining distinguisher between the Pros and the Fauxs.

What kind of bike is this? This place looks pretty reasonable.

I'm sure there are a number of custom frame shops down in So Cal as well. Contact one of them to see who they use.
