Good luck finding a decently priced one...and good luck fitting it too. But yeah that would be ideal.

Since I don't have that kind of money, looks like LS will be the way to go on the PreRunner 4x4. The one guy on here who did the LS7 swap retained the 4WD by using an Atlas transfer case.

This truck is keeping the 5VZ though. No time or money for an engine swap anytime soon.

Land Cruiser guys swap the whole L92 and 6L80E combo from wrecked Escalades pretty cheaply. Usually around 2.5 for the whole setup. We use adapters from Marks to mate them to our special full time offset transfer cases.

Is the land cruiser bigger than a 1st gen? just curious. And are they using all factory ecu and trans controller and what not?

The Land cruiser is bigger but not longer (the 6l80e isn't huge anyway). Some folks keep the land cruiser trans (it is very strong) and it has it's own ECU independent of the engine ecu. Most folks elect to use a cut down ECU and harness for controlling the engine. Most 6L80E have their own ECU actually housed in the trans pan. Then they use the can bus to interface the two.

Eh, it pretty simple. Gm stuff is like Lego and the Land cruiser stuff is pretty easy to make it look seemless.

Here's a thread only consisting of quality V8 swaps into 80 series cruisers, great ideas that you could totally implement on Tacos too.

    Two questions...

    Does Crapmobile's air-conditioner work?

    Did Crapmobile pass California smog?

VT still needs to send him some documentation, it was a cali spec truck though so it'll likely pass just fine still

Forgot to tell you I got my AC fixed in my Taco, kicks ass now. Bought some cans of R-12 for the cruiser too so my AC guy can top it up :)

So the truck came without an AC button, it was missing when I bought the truck.

About three months later after disassembling the whole interior, I was curious as to if the A/C worked. It didn’t. The whole climate control system was dead. I replaced a dead blower motor and the fan worked great.

To test the A/C, I had to borrow the button from my truck. I was doubtful the AC would work after so many miles and abuse and lack of maintenance, but would you believe that the damn A/C was blowing ice cold after a couple seconds?

It cools better than my Mercedes E320. I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked.

As for the California SMOG stuff - as of right now it will fail automatically because no SMOG monitors are ready since I haven’t driven it much after the battery died. I have to drive it a couple hundred miles to get all of them ready, even then who knows. Once I get the VT papers in the mail, get some temporary insurance, and bring it to the DMV for an out of state inspection, I should be getting brand new California issued plates and a title in my name.

@Speedytech7 whats interesting about this truck is that it was bought in Sparks, Nevada in 1997 and immediately driven to Sacramento, California where it spent its whole life. I don’t think it would have CA emissions because of this.

The A/C blowing cold doesn't shock me in the slightest! And smog sensors are a crock of shit!

Huh, that's strange, but I suppose if it passed before it will again if it is running right and the cat is brought up to temp.

Side note, my cruiser is Cali spec and so many things differ from the normal models because Cali mandated them. All of toyotas tests for systems involve removing them before testing haha

Just comes to show the lengths California goes to have clean air. As a resident of California, I applaud California for taking such initiative to keep the air clean. Smog was a huge issue here in the 70’s and 80’s, it was like Beijing. As a car guy, I hate California for taking such initiative to keep the air clean. It makes our job harder.

I checked the CarFax and apparently it failed SMOG in about 2010-ish. Toyota of Sacramento replace the Catalytic Converter with a brand new one and it hasn’t failed since. Last check was in 2015 or so.

Another reason why my 2006 Honda Civic sits in the driveway. Luckily for that car I have the title, however I can’t actually transfer it into my name without a SMOG check. How am I supposed to drive a car not in my name, unable to get insurance to get a SMOG check if I can’t drive the damn car?

I don't like my vehicles to pollute too much or smell a whole lot so the cruiser is getting two brand spanking new high flow cats and the Taco is getting one as well but the cruiser isn't getting Cali spec because they're restrictive and expensive.
