Pro tip: if you ever do anything involving your serpentine belt double check you've routed it correctly.....

About 1-2 months ago I replaced my alternator. Went to change my oil yesterday and noticed the belt looked weird. Looking closer it had a nice groove worn into the topside down to the steel wire. First thought was shit one of the pullys is messed up. Upon further inspection I didn't route the belt under the idler between the water pump and alt. It was over it completely bypassing the idler....smart. the belt had been rubbing on a casting for the water pump off the block for about 5k miles and was basically split into 2. Fortunately it didn't break while driving..

Easy job to replace except I'm short and have to use a stool which makes it more akward to do. Then again pretty much anything besides changing oil requires me to use a stool to access the engine bay.IMG_20180610_142343220.jpg IMG_20180610_142350481.jpg

Don't feel bad. When I worked at a shop we had a tech who had just finished rebuilding the top end of the engine in a Mazda, test started it without the cover on the air cleaner, and sucked a shop rag down into the intake and partially into cylinder #3.

Haha. I feel like I am completely capable of that. I mean literally the belt routing diagram is on a sticker in the engine bay, how much easier can they make it....

That's what happens when you rush. I did paint pen the bolts on the alt so at least I know those are good.

    Yeah...
That was a fun meeting with my district manager, explaining 6 hours of free labor, a free oil change, and the cost for the replacement gaskets/coolant

@tacobell007 I think you threw me the link to Unlimited Truck and Jeep. My new shocks are scheduled to arrive today! They seem to have good prices, might be a good resource. I'll post up later today with what shows up. Hopefully it's all correct.

Did something like that once. I had it routed correctly, but only thing I can think is I was off a rib somewhere. I made it four hours from home by the time it threw the belt and wrapped thin pieces of it tightly around the crank. Removing a destroyed belt on a 90 degree day in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania was fun!

A nice old lady let me use her driveway, though, and ran me up to Advance to grab a new belt. She said "You look like a nice young man, I don't think I have anything to worry about." I guess sometimes my super young appearance pays off.

Hey guys. I'm back after a week of living in this truck. Actually going to be modding the interior of this thing because of the "good" idea fairy who designed this thing. Those of you in the military know what I'm talking about.
