Had to dig a bit but this place has some relatively obscure items. I needed some M10 bolts with 12pt heads for a header install and they were the only place I could find them outside of McMaster

Why is no one considering a 2007-ish Dodge (i6 5.9l diesel)? I was pricing them out and you can still pick one up with less than 100k miles for less than $24,000.

Not a fan of dodge, and i don't think i can justify diesel anymore. Was wanting to tow huge stuff but decided against it. Not to mention i don't know anything about diesel, so it wouldn't be ideal for the road trip build which is the end goal.

Don't believe those MPG numbers. The father in law has one and rarely sees over 16. Actual numbers run about the same as a 5.7 Tundra. Same with the Dodge. Uncle in law has one with the Hemi and 8 speed and is doing the same numbers as the Chevy. Both go single digits towing their campers west. The FTL went to MI. and was able to get 12MPG staying below 65MPH towing a 4klbs loaf of bread.

I'm considering a diesel next because the trucks are purpose built for towing. The Dodge Cummins have lots of aftermarket support and tuning for 20-ish mpg unloaded as well.

The drivetrain has also been known to last for 400,000-500,000 miles (which has some high cost maintenance along the way.)

I've had two 5.3s and got 17mpg in a loaded down Tahoe with stuff on the roof. Towing is only for work, traveling will be slide in pop up camper. It is possible to get good mileage if you aren't towing a bunch, not so much with a tundra. Cousins 16 suburban with the 5.3 gets over 20 average and they don't drive with gas mileage in mind. That's a 50% increase over the tundra with similar power/weight.

Yeah they are great for towing but I'm working away from that need. Still want the ability mainly for my house build then after that I'm not worried. I did want to look into the 7.3 fords, but like i said I'd like to be able to tinker with a diesel so i have an idea of how they work and how to maintain them.

I did get those numbers in a single cab 2015 Chevy, with small street oriented tires. Loaded with a pallet or anything really it went down quick. My extended cab chevy's always got around 16ish mpg.

Good luck finding a clean diesel. Just did a nationwide search for a 2007 Chevy crew cab best year for pre emission diesel and came up with less than 100 for sale and less than half of that number is the classic which is the one everybody wants.

Show me so I can go buy it. I am not finding no such truck since the pre emission trucks have a cult like following now. Was reading through the forums and people were getting these trucks for so cheap 5 years ago. Now they are sky rocketing just like the housing market.

Looking at gas vs diesel I figure I would save about $7,000 every 100k miles if I went with a diesel. Not sure it's worth it in the end if I have to replace the injectors or something else happens with a diesel. Because I sure don't know how to work on one.

Even the 7.3 fords are getting expensive unless they have over 300k miles :annoyed:
