Yeah I’ve had little pebbles fly up and scratch many a windshield but none of them have ever cracked...

Had mine get starred a couple of weeks ago. Safelite fixed and did a shit job. Problem is they just say it'll never look like new so there is no recourse outside of a new windshield. I expect another one and will deal with the whole replacement at that point.

I will never recommend safelite to anybody. I had a horrible experience with them.

I got pilkington glass installed by some local guys faster that safelite and a much better job.

No doubt lesson learned. The attitude when I came back was absolutely unnecessary. Time to call GEICO

Yeah I've heard way too many horror stories re: Safelite. I use a small company (2 locations) that is used by several of the Toyota dealers in my area for glass work. They are very (probably TOO) familiar w/ replacing Taco windshields w/ all the wiring around the mirror, etc.,

People must just have bad luck. I've had large stone hit my windshield while traveling the Alaskan Highway. Had one hit the windshield so hard it sounded like a gun shot. Left a mark but wiped right off. Like people saying the stock OR tires are complete shit, some going through a entire set. I have 24k miles on mine and have been through some shitty sharp rock infested dirt roads, no issues. Think it's just bad luck. I could be wrong.

could be... x2 for me since I just cracked my second one. Though i'm like you on the tires, these stock Wranglers may look weak but I've put 30k on them across all kinds of terrain and while the aggressive mountain driving I do frequently, they have held up really well on rocks, dirt, wet / dry, and didn't do horrible in the snow so long as I was in 4wd.

    I updated my vote.

I've had two replaced and currently have a chip that was repaired.
Never had a windshield replaced or even chipped before this truck.

Luckily when I got my first one replacd I paid the extra to have the warranty where it is replaced if it breaks again within a year and luckily it broke again within that year, but the replaced one didn't come with that same warranty as it was just form the first and I didn't pay anything for the new one.

So if i get another crack I need to pay again, but at least the chips are repaired for free.

As a general rule I stay away from Safelite at all costs. Most of the glass I got from them in the past was full of aberration and they would generally screw the installation up as well. I got my windshield changed last week with the GoPro mount for $260 out the door from a local company that I have used for over 15 years and it looks great. I also notice less wind noise.

If you have a 2018 Tacoma with safety sense camera and go pro attachment you will be paying $650 dollars for a new windshield and only from Toyota not worth it

I'm now in the camp of needing a replacement. Any recommendations in the So Cal Orange County area?

Add me to the windshield replacement group. Rock strike at the top which turned into large crack in a day. Going OEM glass.

    For a 16" 2x4 @ 65mph I think it held up pretty good.

    I have a Gashole
Had mine replaced a few weeks ago. Had a rather large rock chip that started to spider at about 10K. Went and bought a repair kit and got an acceptable fix for the time being. At about 28K got another large chip behind the rear view mirror similar to the previous one. Bought another repair kit and was going to fill it in. A buddy of mine was in the truck with me and he saw the big divot in the windshield (he's in insurance sales) and asked why I wasn't going to get it replaced. Told him I was just going to fill it like the other and wait to see if it eventually spreads.
He then says to me....what happens if someone unexpectedly punched your windshield where the damage was just as he makes a fist and hits the spot.
Windshield then cracks about 6 inches in both directions.
Called him an ass, then we both laughed as I gave him a lot of shit.
Had a smaller company replace it through my insurance $0 deductible.
