Anyone know what this is? behind engine near wall. Chipmunks made a nest (in a weeks time), cleaning it up, found a wire chewed through. No engine light, nothing abnormal in driving. 20180611_105605.jpg

of course they would chew it right at the freaking connector.

I want to say that is a vacuum solenoid that controls the variable length intake runner, but i could be wrong.

There was enough wires on the connector to solder a couple to it. Now to splice it into the harness. Truck driven everyday, so surprised that there weren't any dead ones..... Now I've had them in air cleaner ducts, etc. But trying to take over the entire engine compartment.... Interesting that no indication that there wasn't any engine light or other problems.

thats the reason i think its the control solenoid for the intake flapper. There is no sensor / really a way for the motor to tell that its working or not, hence no CEL.

We have cat, and dog for that matter, that is good about keeping rodents away. But 3-4 years ago we were out of town for a week and had a neighbor feed the cat and dog. They only went out occasionally that week. When we got back our Honda's transmission was shifting weird. I took it to a local shop who found mice had built a nest and chewed through some wires. The repair was simple enough, but the wiring harness was about $150 IIRC.

Since then we installed a cat door so she can come and go as she pleases. She catches mice and chipmunk's on a regular basis and leaves them on the kitchen floor for us to find.
