While exercising my 4 wheel drive in low range (2016, trd off-road 6 cyl, automatic) it felt like the transmission would only shift through the first 4 gears , and didn't feel like it would shift pass 4th gear. i did not try to manually shift into 5th. Should it shift through all 6 gears while in low range?

Ugh.... you can bounce off the rev limiter all you one in 4lo, 2nd gen 4low 5th gear will net you around 45-50mph on the rev limiter if I remember correctly. It aint hurting nothing so long as you are on a surface that is proper for 4x4 operation (dirt, snow etc)

I know in the 2nd gens you can use every gear (including 5th which is an OD), but it will not lock the torque converter in 4th or 5th like it does in 4hi or 2wd.

OP you are likely not feeling the gear shifts as they will be so quick and likely subtle with lower throttle inputs, try this. Put her in 4 low, put it in first and start moving, get to say 4 or 5k rpms, then shift to 2nd, allow it to get back to 4ish k rpms, then shift again and again, id bet you can go all the way up to 6th. Reason for manually going up one gear at a time is to see if it stops shifting at gear 4, or if it continues.

^This has been my experience as well. I bet its just shifting so fast in 4lo you're not able to count all the gears, climbing blowsand I made it all the way to 5th gear in 4lo climbing it about 40mph IIRC (might've even been 6th gear though I wasn't exactly counting)

Btw @nd4spdbh is the pic below your profile on the way to Laurel Lakes by Mammoth?? I recognize that trail, I think I have a pic of my dog overlooking that EXACT same spot, my dog is right in front of the rock that you're flexing on check it out:

hahaha you have to get some sort of prize for getting a GROM all the way up there!

And yeah thats one of my favorite camping spots in the world (at least that I've found so far), its crazy to me that a lot of actual locals have no idea about this place, even I had been going up to Mammoth for a decade before a friend who lived there took me to Laurel Lakes, very special place I've camped there for days at a time and not seen another soul. Like everything else its probably getting more popular these days, I'll find out headed up there next month!

The grom is not the craziest... ridden a chinese z50 with street tires all the way from lake George all the way up to laural lake. That was gnarly and stupid haha. Quickest is always on the big dirtbike that just soaks up everything, 30minutes up 20 min down at most with stops for sight seeing.
