Black Oak LED lighting

I asked on the third gen forum, but this seems like a better place..

How does Black Oak compare to like Rigid, Cali Raised, Baja etc?

Anyone running them on their rigs and thoughts?

 

The fact that you threw cali raised into that mix makes me think you dont know much about baja or Rigid... Really Baja is the only light to compare other lights to... so just buy once and cry once.

I don't know shit about LED lights, there are a million options from cheaper than dirt to super fucking expensive. I'm looking for a quality middle of the road option..

 

What specifically are you looking for? Pods? Lightbars?

 

Both actually, flood and fog squares, and 30" lightbar to stick in a prinsu.

Be sure to evaluate your beam pattern options and mounting locations when choosing your pods. Take a look at beam patterns section in this thread:

The only pattern that is acceptable for using on the street with oncoming traffic is SAE J583 Fog, which is something to consider when purchasing depending on how you intend to use them.

As with everything there is a spectrum, Rigid and Baja are on the exceptionally high quality and high performance end of the spectrum. I've run 8-9 different pods, though not Black Oak, and generally speaking you get what you pay for.

 

Middle of the road has a lot of brands. If you plan to just use it for trails and will not be traveling over 20 mph then you will be fine with some cheaper brands. They throw plenty of light, even the cheap $20 LEDs wouldnt be bad, just have to worry about water leaking into the housing. Could be solved by taking the lights apart and then adding some silicon around the seals to give it some extra protection. To be safe try to find some that are assembled in the USA.

Things to worry about with cheap LEDs though...

• water leaking into the housing
• Some LEDs may stop working
• Faulty wiring causing fuses to blow / wires to melt
• Some do not come with wire harnesses or light switches

My Caliraised Side Shooters have water in one of the housings.... Never had a problems with my Baja Designs though!
