Keep an eye on bowel movements, those injections can cause a bit of constipation or diarrhea for some cats. Glad to hear she's doing pretty well, she sounds like a champ

9A00CA70-B274-495F-A27F-FA856CA75EB7.jpg We haven’t seen anything yet and don’t know what or when it’s going to happen. She’s on the pain meds and 2 oral antibiotics so it could go either way. We would really like to see her go pee before too long. Not sure if she went at the vets today. We have the litter box standing by but if she just lets it go where she’s at that’s fine too. It’s hard seeing her like this and just want to see her being herself and miss rubbing her belly- she loves that! Here’s the girl resting

She seems to be doing pretty well. Last night she finally went pee around 9:30 and then ate a little wet food around 2:30 am. She seems much more like herself when the pain medicine wears off a little. We were contemplating not giving her the pain medicine injection this afternoon but the vet directed us to do so. We’re really torn but have a few hours yet before we decide.
Since the last couple of days have been all about Suki poor Louisa and Amos have been getting neglected a little. They’ve been snuggling up with each other and we’re really happy to see that. Louisa always loved to snuggle with Albert so we had hoped her and Amos would eventually do the same. Thanks for checking in and all the well wishes are much appreciated. This has been tough on all of us.

Thank you! We gave her a pain shot about 3 hours ago and we debated not giving it to her as she shows no interest in eating when she’s on it. This was hopefully the last injection so we figured it was best to do it especially since the vet told us to give it to her. Hoping she eats a little more tonight and starts to drink a little water too

Maybe try giving her the pain injection shortly before the time of day she normally sleeps? I feel like she'd do okay without them but dr knows best

We were thinking about doing it later in the evening/ night but decided against it. We want her to be completely herself tomorrow hoping she’ll eat and drink tomorrow morning so we can give the vet an accurate assessment when we call them in the morning. My big concern is her not drinking enough and if she doesn’t drink anything we may go get a bag of fluids and give it to her subcutaneously to keep her hydrated. Needless to say, I’ve narrowed my list of excuses not to go to work down to a solid 5 to pick from. I typically only call in1-2x a year and have like 800 hours of sick on the books so I really don’t even feel badly about it. Plus I did actually chip my tooth over the weekend so I’ll try to get that fixed as well.

Today started pretty good. She got up and ate a little around 12:30am and had decent energy in the morning but as the morning wore on she just seemed a bit lethargic and no interest in food. She went in the litter box a few times but she wasn’t able to produce so we figured her behavior was because of constipation. I made sure to give her water regularly to keep her hydrated. It was a bit frustrating because my wife and I couldn’t agree on what to do next and we couldn’t get a call back from the vet to tell us what was ok and what wasn’t. Turns out they got slammed with multiple critical cases and he did end up calling back this evening. He wants us to drop her off in the morning but if she’s able to just squeeze one out I think she’ll be ok. She’s a really sensitive cat so when things are just off a little it affects her. I’m sure this is a result of the meds but she’s no longer getting pain medicine so hoping things get normal for her. She pee’d 2x today so stuffs going through her. We gave her a little laxitone (hair ball lube) and now feeding her baby food that’s easy to squirt with a syringe. Thanks for checking in and sorry about the novel. Oh btw called my dds and he’s out of town until next Monday. The tooth will have to wait until then. Doesn’t really hurt so it low priority.

prob a lot has to do with the meds...once they wear off and she starts eating hopefully things start moving again. Its bad enough when a person gets sick but an animal cant even tell you whats wrong other than abnormal behavior. Always hoping for the best.

She’s still getting antibiotics but I don’t think they usually cause constipation. It tough with these guys cuz you just have to read them and no way to tell them “hang in there things will be ok”.

even if its not the antibiotics, it prob will take a few days to get all the pain meds out of her system. Just making her feel comfortable will make it easier on her...even though Im sure you all are worried about her.

Worried is an under statement . We don’t have kids so these guys mean the world to us. She was actually acting most comfortable up on the bed today and I had her right against my side and we both took a little nap this afternoon. When I woke up I could actually fell her paws twitching so I knew she was out cold and probably dreaming.
We are easily $2k into this whole thing and I haven’t even given it a though. Our credit card is doing it’s job- absorbing/ deferring debit. I’d spend it all again without batting a eye if it made her feel better. Part of me really wishes I hadn’t given her pain meds yesterday as that would’ve been 1 day sooner it was out of her system. I know when I had my mx accident I was in the hospital for 10 days on morphine and it took me a week and it hurt like hell so that makes me worry about her. Sorry if this is TMI for all you folks out there.

We don’t have kids either so we do whatever we can for our cats too. They depend on us and who else do we have to spoil.
I have been told the anesthesia itself can cause constipation. I’m hoping once she goes poo she’ll start feeling better. :fingerscrossed:

We are also kid-less crazy cat people. Opioid pain meds can definitely cause slow gut motility issues that can manifest as constipation, and the effects tend to persist for awhile after stopping - at least in people. I'm a pharmacist, not a vet, but our Ginger has had similar issues during pain med use. we are not fans of the cat-lax stuff as it can actually cause gas and that can lead to cramps and other discomfort. Water is the best laxative, so I hope she starts drinking more. Have you tried CatSip? Our cats love it, and it's a great way to both hydrate and get calories in them. Ask the vet first, but has worked for us. We can get it at the local grocery store in the pet isle.

Haven’t heard of it but will definitely look into it. We have been giving her a fair amount of water so I’m feeling comfortable about her being hydrated. I was really on the fence about giving her laxitone but since we couldn’t get ahold of the vet at the time it was like a last course of action for us. It was prescribed by him just a few days earlier, suspecting a blockage. I read that it helps coat the bowel and prevents from water reabsorption.

Here's an Amazon link, but it's available everywhere: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01CEUR...9fad-67ffc675b46b&ie=UTF8&qid=1528817188&sr=1

One of our previous cats lived off of it for over a week after she was attacked by a dog. She was very old at the time, but she pulled through and was with us for a couple more years. we use it as a treat now, and keep it on-hand for emergencies. It's shelf stable.
