Replaced my ladies headlights and blinkers.. made it look 4-5 years newer.

 

Every time I see a cat fail I just get confused why these cats fail and my cat is still original

 

It's a poor connection period . Out side of the cab it allows for corrosion to the wires in the harness and that additional wires. As far as why it's a poor connection is these clamps are a one size fits all so on smaller wire there isn't enough contact to pass current and on larger wires it cuts part of the stranded wire causing the wire to no longer be able to carry the same amount of amperage and you just added more load to boot. So yeah shit deal . The only ASE exceptable wire connections are insulated but connectors or soldered connections with heat shrink.

 

So this is just what they thought us in school but cats don't fail they are killed by other failed components. I would say that's about a 80% true statement from the hundreds of cats I've changed

So what’s the #1 killer of a cat then??

 

Most of the time it's seconday misfire pouring raw fuel into the cat super heating it and melting it down. Ever smell that raw eggy sulfur smell driving down the road? That's some one burning down a cat . Then there's the primary full control issues like MAF, MAP, fuel regulator, and failed injectors. I've seen burned valves do it and I've seen cats just flat out break apart.
Edit:. I forgot burning coolant will contaminate them as well. So blowing a head gasket takes them out. Some people get lucky but most of the time I do head gaskets it gets cats within a year

 

Mine was because of how lean my truck was running with the supercharger setup prior to my 7th injector...the previous owner ran it that way for who knows how long and how recklessly, so attribute it to that.

You could. Just bolt in a cat for testing and then have another hollowed out cat for the rest of the year.

I thought the backpressure created by the cats was supposed to be a good thing for performance, to a degree. I could be wrong though, just what I've heard.

Yeah the guy that installed my 7th says he does that with his truck lol.

 

I went to smog my truck today and it didn’t pass. I was throwing the po136 last week but I think I got everything fixed. The smog papers say that my oxygen sensor monitors are not ready. Does anybody know how many miles the truck needs before the code should go out the trucks system?

 

If you throw a CEL it takes a while before the emissions system is ready to complete after you clear and fix the code...you need to wait another week or so depending on how much you drive.

There's no set mileage that makes it complete its cycle but you can check it with a scan tool like the Torque app before you take it in for smog.

 

yes, with the boost your running, you'd see improvement opening up the exhaust a lot.

Though the less back pressure you have the less low end torque..but due to the boost..not really a big deal.

 

passed my smog today:
pulled into the bay,
attendant asks me to put it in park and he chocks the rear wheels,
second attendant comes up, grabs the rear bumper and attempts to shake it,
same second attendant moved to the drivers side and grabs the RTT bed rack and shakes it,
then comes up to window and asks what the heck is the bed rack was for, I said for a tent,
instant eye glaze of mind blown set in,
then the amazing question of "is this a 4 wheel drive?" - yes sir, it is,
then followed up with another stellar question of "do you take this off road?" yes sir, I do.

I could feel my IQ was plummeting almost immediately as I brilliantly asked, "which way out? That way?"

 

I should’ve taken mine to your smog guys damn!

 

All they do is ODBII connections, no tail pipe sniffer....
