It can be, which is why it has a bad rap, it can be so confusing that some dealers will use the confusion as cover to extract $ that they otherwise would not be able to.

BUT if you know what you're doing leasing can be fantastic! Its why most people actually in the car business LEASE, because they KNOW how it works and thus know how to take advantage of it on the vehicles that it makes sense on.

Just gotta remember not all vehicles have good leases, I would NEVER allow a friend to lease a Nissan, residual values are inflated so you're shooting yourself in the foot and essentially trapping yourself into being a nissan customer for the next decade as you'll just keep rolling that negative and they'll keep on giving you "allowances" to stay with Nissan. Only way to get out of it is to take a major hit at some point.

Subaru on the other hand make great leases almost always, as they have strong resale values so you'll have options at the end of the leases, same with Tacoma's and Wranglers if you do it right (use a third party lease to get a better money factor if a special rate isn't being offered at the time).

I'd be happy to help, just noticed you're in New York so I'd have to double check and make sure there's not some weird laws that would change the calculus on this but I think the only difference is you pay tax up front in NY whereas in my state CA you only pay tax per payment, and in that case it would make even MORE sense to buy out your truck at the end as you'd have already paid taxes on the whole thing (but I'd have to double check).

I still work in finance and we have a Toyota dealer in our group so I should be able to look up your payoff and stuff with your VIN#

Sweet! I appreciate it! I'll message you later .I did put all taxes up front. Makes me wish I negotiated the price of the vehicle a bit because it's possible its marked up to the max.

My question is really how is the bumper is assembled. This will allow me to do some more research and figure out if the quote is fair. THEN I will decide to pocket, aftermarket bumper, etc......

I have no negative equity, so really this is just a question of me understanding the assembly so I can see how bad this guy's insurance is going to low ball me.

They will hang you by your short hair if you mod that truck! I know TFS will, don't know about any of the others. They want it back in one piece, the way they sent you off with it! No more and no less!! Trust me! I wanted to add the aluminum running boards at the time of my lease. Roll it into the cost vs. dropping the 700 up front. They wanted 1200 bucks for those running boards installed. I said no and that's when the fun started. I got schooled on "NO Modding" real quick! I don't know if that was all talk and BS, which I suspect some of it was just to get me to spend that 1200 bucks. At that point I kept my pie hole shut. I bought the boards off of Facebook. Some guy was parting out his truck and needed the cash. 250 for the boards and away I went. I met him at the Toyota dealer and it was a done deal. I figured if I kept the truck I would not care, if I decided to dump it, I would take the boards off prior to the inspection. Those FREE inspections are notorious for being a pain in the arse. They go though everything and if they see fit you get written up and then pay for it after the fact. Missing owners manuals, keys, mats. Which I can see. Leasing is no more than renting long term. You wouldn't mod out a rental and return it would you? Same applies here.

Save your pennies until you're just about done paying the lease. There may be better stuff out there by then? Or you may be sick of the Tacoma! I came into my lease clean as I didn't know if I wanted to go the distance with the Tacoma. As it stands now, I have a love hate relationship with the damn thing and the servicing dealer. Awful! Have two years left.

How do you sell a leased truck if you don’t own it? :notsure: Don’t you have to buy it out first and wait until you get the pink slip?

I also think Toyota plastic and metal body parts cost a lot more than a couple hundred. Its ridiculous what they are charging for body parts, especially the plastic!

You are also mostly paying taxes when you first start making payments. Vehicle worth and what you are paying is totally different. I leased my truck for smaller payments. In the end of my lease, the truck will be worth 32 or 33k. End term buyout is 29k. My truck also had a dumpster fly into the side of it and body work done, roughly 2500.00$ worth. I am iffy on what will happen when its time to trade it in. I honestly want to buy it out now but it was in a incident, I am unsure if I still want it or start fresh. Body shop did a great job and you can't tell anymore but it's always in the back of my mind....

A hitch will get your frame bent and a totaled truck almost 90% of time,in a rear end accident.

They may not care. I had repaired damage waived on my Jeep at lease turn in because it was "up to repair standards". When is your lease up?

Yeah, just have to refinance, I guess... not everyone can buy it outright to sell though, not as easy as selling a “owned” or financed car. Tried it once and the lease company took too long to accept the buyout so the buyer lost interest.

I just go through my credit union now, they like to make used car loans out of new car loans!

As bad as I thought leasing was, reading this thread only makes my opinion against them stronger, lol.

Just had this exact scenario happen to me, OP. It’s right around $205 for the (1) part and labor. Get the check and put it towards something else
