Has anyone converted rear drum brakes to disc brakes on 2013 Tacoma? Are there kits available? How hard is it to do? I have two floor jacks and a Sears Mechanic tool set along with torque wrenches and extensions.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
You will not notice any great gains by doing this. It is possible yet not very practical. Learn to love the drums and only having to change them every 150k.

Yes people have done it. I did it on my 2016. Yes, there are also kits available. Its pretty difficult, its a very involved install requiring precise cutting, many different parts to be installed, and then there is the tuning aspect of getting everything to the point where it works as intended once again. You will eventually find that you need a new master cylinder out of a tundra/sequoia/other aftermarket MC in order to get it to work right. I am not trying to discourage you, but your attitude definitely will not help.

FYI: A large portion of getting a mod like this exactly right is you having a go-getter/DIY attitude. Its hard work, and it does not end with the install of a rear disc brake kit. There will be other things you have to do to get it right beyond that. Not using the search function to find answers that are readily available in several different places on this site and the internet is a discouraging sign.

That's also false. I can speak from experience in saying that the braking power upgrade is very significant, especially if your truck has added weight or you tow regularly. Not only that, once you get the aftermarket MC in there you get a much more natural feeling brake pedal without the weird jump in braking power around 1/3 to 1/2 pedal travel that you get from the drum/disc stock setup.

They are more maintenance intensive, but for me I am already taking my wheels off all the time so it doesnt cost me much to swap pads out while I am in there.

don't forget to get them cryo drilled and slotted rotors with new unicorn colors that change with temp so you know how much brake fade you have left before they melt off your axel

I have to play devil's advocate here, being that I have gone through not only the rear disc conversion, but also upgrading the front rotors and calipers and then finally the MC as well :D

    Definitely do it.

Your braking distance will improve from an all ready horrendous 158 ft all the way down to almost as horrendous 157 feet.

Did you quote my same post twice talking trash? LOL... You have the right to your opinion man, I am not hating on you for it but there are pro and cons on both ends. We can get into the whole issue of rear disc brake fade if you like when towing or in heavy braking scenarios. IT IS MY OPINION that it is a waste of money.

Hey man not even talking trash I am just saying I speak from ample experience with both setups, in the same or similar vehicle.

I haven't experienced said brake fade just yet but I will definitely be the first to post on here saying 'screw big brake kits and disc conversions' if I do ever experience that. I experienced a shitload of brake fade taking the stock drums on a track, give them about 2-3 laps and I was doubling my stopping distances because of how soft the pedal was getting. All I was trying to do is make sure everybody has the same info from a source with experience running both setups.
