So stocked to see what this tune can do for my truck!

 

I had simply assumed that increased emissions were a price we paid for the greatly improved performance of the OVT tunes vs the OEM tune. Now, it is really hard to understand how Toyota could have sold us these trucks running the way they do, if it was not to improve emissions and/or mileage. How pathetic.

I bet your tune runs cleaner than the stock tune too. Would be curious to see those numbers.

 

No question.... I would never stand outside my truck on the passenger side very long before it was so nasty especially when cold. Now it's like a normal exhaust... not obnoxious and colorless...

 

Purchased a second-hand dongel kit. Dongel sent to Mat. Now waiting on invoice for License/Software once dongel is received by Mat (US address not China!). Gonna be a long, hopefully short wait with lots of anticipation!

Some people just aren't capable of being happy no matter what they are on.

 

A few pages back I asked whether there was a process in place so that when we got a new computer or whatever we could submit our new ID. I was hopeful that Matt would make this (and most other things) a part of his website and that it would not require human intervention. Apparently that is not going to happen, but Matt did respond that all anyone had to do was contact him and they would take care of it. Please read below why I think that is a problem. Matt can tell me if I am wrong.

Per Microsoft's "suggestion", like a several million others, I updated to a new version (1803) today. Just by chance I am on a forum where there is a Microsoft employee (Pete Brown). I noticed him discussing the fact that indeed, Win 10 upgrades DO change the System ID. People installing or updating their tune will have to contact Matt:

a) If they update between when they sent their ID to Matt and when they do the install.
b) Whenever Windows updates their PC (quarterly at least - unclear if weekly updates change the ID). If you don't keep it up to date; you WILL be surprised. They fact that MS lets you defer for a period of time lulls you to sleep.

I'm not affected currently, but one day I will be, as will EVERYONE else.

Why is updating an issue for us? MS new "software as a service" implementation, whereby they insist, for most individuals (Home and Pro) and small companies (non-enterprise license) that they keep up to date so as to avoid conflicts. You can defer updates for a period of time depending on version, but NOT indefinitely. And updates change the System ID - at least major updates; not sure about security and Tuesday updates.

So you, AND Matt may well be surprised at the level of interaction that will be required over time. And when you least expect it. Note that Microsoft has been changing these policies and users ability to defer since Win 10 was released. Another moving target.

"If they're using the ID it seems they are from the comments here, we've (Microsoft) specifically told copy protection and backup and other companies NOT to use that as a unique persistent identifier for a PC. We've told them it changes on upgrades. Yet, they still do, and then you get problems like this, and having to re-auth dongles after an upgrade."

And from another post of his later today that explains why MS does this:

"Among other things, there are privacy concerns with unique machine identifiers, that never change, that the user cannot control, and that are visible cross-application. That's why Apple/Microsoft and others agreed on user-resettable Advertising IDs for that specific scenario.

Most of the time, these crazy PC ID schemes are hatched because they want to limit how many computers you can work with, or otherwise monetize. So then they have to come up with something the user cannot easily change. It gets messy from there."

 

I am definitely familiar with the win 10 version changes and how they f things up so this is a mild concern. If I use my work laptop it runs win10 ltsb so these version upgrades won't be as much of a concern for me, but still a concern.

 

If it becomes a problem we will find a solution, as of right now it's the only way to we can do it.

 

Now where are those super smart haters that think this is all a gimmick and complete bullshit?

Yes, really looking forward to 1.05 power map and I haven't even tried 1.03/1.04 as I am still waiting for order to come through!

 

It’s the same where I live. I’m running tune 1.04 91octane filled with 93octane and love Mat’s OV tune! Has completely changed the way the truck drives in a very positive way.

Not enough information honestly. We don't know the parameters for those tests and meeting a requirement doesn't mean it exceeded the existing.

Quantifiable results usually require knowing all the variables.

With this vehicle having 4 converters, the tune would have to be pretty egregious to not pass a basic sniffer test. Again, i'm assuming this is a sniffer test since no other information was provided.

The takeway is that tuning the vehicle doesn't mean you're polluting the atmosphere any worse than an untuned truck.
