The mileage with the v10 is absolutely terribly compared to a diesel. I am thinking it's not worth the trouble of a diesel and am looking into the Chevy 6.0's. Can't afford a 2014 and newer 1500 so those are out as well.

Shop around or have a broker do it for you. And repeat every few years potentially, or when major changes happen (to your bill that is, not just what you're insuring).

The past few years have taught me that the longer you stay with an insurance company the more you'll pay for the most part. Not necessarily true across the board, but...

I had Allstate from the time I got a license until a few years ago, for both auto and renters. There's always been the annual creep, and sometimes when laws change the prices have gone up or down. Those few years ago, my auto jumped like 20-25% (from 400ish to 500ish) with one renewal for no reason on my part. I was told it was a 'general rate increase' because of all the hailstorm claims in the area. Shopped around (including a broker who represented a 'family' of companies, which I think it would be better if you find a general broker who will shop everyone), ended up with Geico for literally half of what Allstate wanted (Progressive was only slightly cheaper than Allstate's new price). But I left my renters with them because I'd gotten quotes while doing auto, and even with any sort of multiple policy discount (and the loss of the one with Allstate), nobody came close.

A few months ago Geico jacked things up from 265ish to 345ish (and thank you for making me look, because I totally forgot to print a new card and haven't had current proof on me since like April apparently ). Same old general rate increase BS. So I went shopping again. Allstate quoted me back down to a 400ish number. No changes in driving record or anything else really, just not been with them a couple of years. Couple other places were like 700. I thought about going back to Allstate (since I had claims through them and was always satisfied, while I haven't actually used Geico yet), but $60 is $60. So I ended up staying with Geico. But like someone else said, companies will discount you to get you away from some competitors (then start raising it later), and in other cases will basically jack your rate because you don't fit the demographic they want in that particular risk pool anymore (or the pool is off balance and they're trying to rebalance it).

Which is a long way of saying two different people with similar histories can have very different experiences with the same company, so it pays to look around for the one that actually wants you at the time, and keep checking every so often.
