I lost that stupid hose or cap(I forgot) about 8 years ago. I use the water bottle when I'm in a hurry.

Normally, I just let the oil drain out of the filter and it doesn't leak when I take it off. Poking a couple or so holes in the top of the filter seems to help it drain.

I just stick my Ratio Right under the drain tube when I remove the filter.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
As most have already said, I wedge an empty 20oz. soda bottle under it and let it collect the drainage. Once new filter is on, I hit it with a shot of brake cleaner, pull the bottle, and replace the nipple. Easy peasy.

During my first change i had a solo cup and mini bungee cord in the garage. Stuck the two hooks thru the tops of both sides. Ive used it every oil change, 14 or so now, see no reason for anything else. the mini bungee is nice, keeps a cup, or bottle or whatever you choose close to the hole, and stretches to fit over the filter

I use the tube method, I chase it with a little de-greaser after I put the new filter on. Cleans the 'dish' and the tube out. Only thing that drips is the left over de-greaser.

Water bottle here too, basic 16oz crunched a bit to make it fit over the nipple, then I use a ~5in strip of duct tape from the bottle to the housing to keep it in place. Don't make this harder than it needs to be. Clean it all off well after, and you don't even need to use a rubber cap.

I cut a piece of down spout from the gutter on my house and attached it with zip ties. It works perfect.

I believe there’s a rubber nipple that is on it from the factory but most likely that gets lost on the first oil change.

5 years later and I still have the rubber cap - I do my own oil changes. Last year I ran a 3/8" hose and zip tied it to the frame. Clean it with a little carb or brake cleaner and put a bolt in the free end so that it doesn't drip all over.

That OEM rubber plug disintegrated many moons ago. I have a nylon vacuum plug now. I think half inch; might be 3/8th. I also use the 16oz plastic bottle method. It stays in place wedged with the rad hose. And I'm using the large PL30001 filter; so, gotta move fast to minimize the amount of oil draining out.

OP, have you really drained oil that way since 2012!? Hijole.

    From the FSM:

    (f) Connect a drain hose to the oil filter bracket. HINT: • Drain hose inside diameter: 8 mm (0.31 in.)

20180613_194040.jpg Hose goes from bottom of the oil filter adapter down along the left side of the radiator tie wraped to some hoses and exits through the bottom of the skid plate through a square hole which I have outlined with just a quarter inch gas line to keep the edges from fraying the hose after I drain the oil is for a little carb clean through it goes right through no more dripping =full]2756073[/ATTACH]

Shhhh! That's MY SECRET! Only because I couldn't find a hose that was the specified 900 mm long!

    Wow.

Let's review your question(s): Is there something missing? Anyone ever notice this?

Some people have attached a hose and others use various forms of bottles/containers to catch the dripping.

But apparently we're "jackasses" for telling you what we do.

To actually answer your questions: No. Nothing is missing. Yes. We've all noticed it and dealt with it in our own creative ways.
