Maybe better said as the 'widest tire'? (The 265 is about 31.6" tall)

Because the tallest tire would be a 255/80/17 or a 255/85/16 (full 33"), but proper wheel selection, like TRD SEMA, is still part of the equation.

OP, you might find this helpful in your choices. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-skinny-on-skinny-tires.529656/

BTW, you mention future 3". Most around here agree 2-2.5" is tops for keeping lift related issues at a minimum. Your call obviously, but recommend more reading first.

How much clearance do you have at full compression while at full lock?

Yeah, I have a 2.5-ish lift on mine (Icons & Dakars).

My tire size is currently stock (265/70/16), but if I win the SCS lottery coming up I'll be putting on 265/70/17s and going with a lighter tire.

The reason a lift doesn't fit bigger tires is because it's not the limiting factor. Sure it becomes a factor at some point but you run into other shit first. Namely the cab mount and UCA.

The common misconception is 3" lift fits 285s. This is just wrong. The lift is irrelevant when going 285s. There's enough height on stock trucks to fit 285s but you will have problems at the cab mount and UCA whether at stock height or 3" up.

The biggest issue on larger tires on these trucks is not really their diameter (unless you're going really big) so much as their width. Our front wheelwells are quite tight, and nobody makes 35x10.5s anymore. Diameter wise, you can fit a lot, but since the front tires have to TURN, you start running into the bodywork quite quickly.

with a lot of cutting and hammering, you can fit 33s without a lift just depends on how much trimming you want to do.

These trucks aren't like Jeeps where you can just throw a lift on and some bigger tires. The people running 35"s and even 37's like Erok had to do significant modifications to their trucks beyond just a lift kit to fit them. The best way to fit 35's is with a long travel suspension and again, modifications to flares and other things.

Full lock 2”. Full compression no clue. How would I figure that out?

Compress the suspension with a floor jack under the LCA on a corner in full lock.

If you place the jack correctly, the truck should start to lift when the suspension is compressed.

Measure in full droop by lifting from the frame until the tire clears the ground.

Because the tire dia and body arch dia are not concentric that it could rub in droop and not in compression. Or the opposite. Or both. All depends on your setup.

But measuring in a static condition doesn't tell enough of the tale.
