So far, Avenza hasn't done much for me. Haven't downloaded the free Backcountry Nav yet.

Three reasons. One, I don’t want to lift the truck any more (for multiple reasons), two, I don’t want to buy wider wheels to fit wider tires and three, no work necessary to fit them. I’m lifted 2” all the way around and I’ve got 1” spacers on my OEM 17 inch wheels already. I also took the mud flaps off when I lifted the truck and my current 31.5” tires (which measure closer to 31” on the truck) have plenty of room. I may have to trim some of the front plastic but since those “34 inch” tires are listed at 33.5” tall by BFG and have been measured between 32.8” and 33” inches tall when mounted and holding the weight of the truck I shouldn’t have any issues running them. And they’re thinner than a 285 and plenty of Gen2 guys are running 285/70/r17s without more than 3” of lift or any major modification.

You can, you just can’t do it with wide tires and regardless, in extreme off-road situations you may rub the cab mount or pinch weld.

You will most likely have to do a CMC and maybe some heat gun to the liner and hammer to the pinch weld. I wheel with several folks that have 285/75/16 on factory wheels that are 7" wide I believe.

Most tires over 265 suggest 7.5” to 9” wife wheels. And if I stick to my normal driving patterns and don’t do any serious wheeling I don’t think I’ll have a problem fitting 33s. But I guess I’ll have to do some more research before I buy them just in case. Good thing I’ve got another 7 or 8 months...

Or just get 255s and dont care. Especially if you aren't going to get into wheeling very much, you really don't need the 285s for anything other than looks. 255s will return far better fuel mileage too, with less noise.

I’ve considered 255/80/r17s but I really like my BFG KO2s and they don’t make them in that size... the closest thing they have is the 34x10.5x17 which is a true 33” tire and only a few millimeters wider than a 265.

And pardon my ignorance but wouldn’t pushing the wheels out away from the hub with spacers or a more aggressive offset help avoid rubbing? Especially with a 10.5” tire?

    It was a yolk.

I do need to get a 255 spare. And a spare wheel for it.

I bought 5 wheels and 5 new tires. Doing a 5 tire rotation now. Should get (in theory) 20% added miles per set. Hoping that equates to 55K to 60K out of this set of STT PRO's.... Or....makes for an attractive selling point when I get my dirdie fibes.

That's "winter goals"....Bring it out next spring with 35's, snorkel, front locker, roof rack, and swing out tire carrier. Not even summer yet (officially) and I'm making winter plans.

With you raising your health concerns, is a roof rack really necessary? I'm 31 and I don't like lifting shit over my own head lol

Mostly for looks...Want some black on top to balance black trim in other areas. Remember, I rule my kingdom in the mall parking lot AND the woods!

It's all about finishing a plan I had when I first started this project in November of 2014....Before surgeries and other diagnosis. Until they tell me I can't do a fucking thing, I'll keep trying....

Even if I get to build a dedicated trail rig (Jeep or FJ), there is still a plan to finish the Tacoma. It will be done some day.

    Get after it!
I want a roof rack, kinda. But, I think it was @Snowy, that suggested to stay light as possible. Especially since 4 banger. I pack enough junk with me as is going car camping.

The rack itself isn't heavy. And I'm all about keeping weight down. (Reason for mostly aluminum armor) Weight reduction provides more performance from same power, less "load" when trying to overcome gravity (think HILLS) and reducing high center of gravity. Quality roof rack shouldn't add much. (Priznu Cabrack....see @fleckosaurus truck)

I know a lot of folks run spacers, but I've not been a huge fan of what happens if they fail.

I’ve run wheel spacers on almost every car I’ve owned in the last fifteen years. I’ve always torqued them to spec and checked them every tire rotation. I’ve never had any problems even when I was doing autoX. But yes, there’s always a risk for failure and physics would tell me they put added stress on the wheel bearings. How much more stress than wheels with an aggressive offset, who knows?

And actually, it won’t matter anyway if I buy the 17” TRD SEMA wheels I’ve had my eye on. They have a 5mm offset compared to my stock TRD Sport wheels with a 30mm offset. I’ll have no use for my 1” spacers with that setup. I’m just really going to have to research whether I can safely run a 10.5” wide 33” tire without the risk of rubbing the cab mount. I can handle some minor fender or fender liner rubbing when fully stuffed but I don’t want to be hitting the cab mount or pinch weld...
