Here's my humble ride. It's nothing compared to what some of you guys are rocking. Just getting back into riding after not being on a mountain bike since college 20 yrs. ago.

I live about 2 miles from a local bike trail that I have been wanting to take my son to. The problem is that:
    1. I have a 29er mountain bike
    2. I have a jackrabbit tonneau cover with no rails to install a rack.
    3. I don't want to drill any holes on the retractable canister or attach something permanent.
    4. I have a shortbed and don't want the tailgate open or block my camera view when backing out.

SOLUTION- RockBros 3 bike suction rack. It's cheap, removable, and more importantly it matches my truck!:yay:
Oh I realized I installed it backwards just wanted to see if it would keep a suction on a non-smooth surface. I left it on for 6 hrs, drove it to work and back and it kept a strong suction. Hell, it was a bitch to unsuction it.

Yeah I was really liking the transition after just riding the yeti...they are fairly comparable to pedaling I'd say. I just think I had a tiny bit more fun on the yeti. My yeti makes me enjoy pedaling up hill. I compare it to going up a flight of stairs, it's such a firm platform in which to pedal from.

How reliable is the crashpads for the tailgates such as raceface? I have one but it makes me nervous to drive my new bike home on the free way held in with little velcro straps. Are these tried and proven (been told it's only gravity holding it) is it enough for long freeway journeys?

the bike isn't going anywhere... ever... unless some wild final destination shit happens and a flying crane flown by an Amazon drone follows you down the highway and has some whale removing device to strategically pick up your bike. even then... it will have to somehow cut your velcro strap.

long story short... your bike isn't ever going to fall out of your truck.

Thanks all for the responses. I called back Fox and they got me into a 2019 36 160mm FIT4 with boost for $646 +tax/shipping. It's showing up at almost $1k in stores, so I felt the urge to take advantage of the deal. The GRIP2 would have been $50 more, but didn't think I needed that.

I have the raceface pad and have used it for both long and short drives and have gotten up to five bikes in the bed. Longest hwy/freeway trip has been to Tahoe and back which is about 220 miles for me. On those kind of trips I tend to use a thick hardened chain through the frame to the d-ring and a cable through the wheel -> frame -> d-ring. That's more for some security if I have to stop and get gas or use a restroom.

The only time I've had the bike move at all is on bumpy roads, so then I'd use the velcro on the fork and slow down. If you leave the pad on all the time you probably want to use some kind of UV protectant. Others I've talked to have that leave it on 24/7 and don't have noticed issues wth the pad starting to come apart after a season or two.

Yup. Mine works great, and I never use the straps. Still doesn't move.

2 full Utah Summers and Winters and it is starting to show. Think its on its last legs.

Watch where the straps go under the tailgate. It wore through the paint over time on mine at the bottom edge.

It's pretty clapped out, but it works just fine. Let me see how big of a box I have at home tonight.

I'll PM you some pics at lunch so you can decide it its worth it.

Cool. I run a swingout CBI rear bumper right now and hate the thing. So this would be perfect for when I sell that bumper/remove the swingout

I've been tempted to get a swingout bumper but kills the tailgate pad idea, and pretty severely limits a shuttle rack.

Edit: when the hell did these things get so expensive. I think I bought my rf pad for like $100 2 years ago.

I heard they've tweaked the newer ones so they aren't as gutless. Not sure where to go on this site, but I'm sure there are Subi forums out there.
