Not as much lift with new King coils as expected?

I recently installed the King OEM suspension on my '16 TRD off road and the front only lifted about 1.5 inches, vs the around 2.5 that it should have gone up. The coilovers were adjusted from King at the factory and not changed in my end.

I installed them with the ecgs bearing and total chaos ucas with deaver leafs and king shocks in the back. The back of the truck was lifted the expected amount, about 2.75 inches, any ideas on why the front is so much less than it should be?

The truck is very close to stock weight, attached is a picture of the front driver coil. The ride is still phenomenal, the back is stiffer than the front, but that is expected with leafs. I don't feel the front is overly soft, my original thought was that the coils just need more preload but that would make them stiffer.

 

You gotta adjust them to that height yourself. There should be a tool that fits in the little slots of the blue thing on top of your spring. Twist to your wanted height.

 

I do have that tool, the entire coilovers has to be removed to make that adjustment because of the reservoir. They were supposed to be adjusted from the factory for about 2.5 inches before settling.

 

Obviously they weren't. And considering the amount of thread showing above the upper perch, you have the majority of the adjustment available. So pull 'em and set 'em where you want.

 

You shouldn't have to remove the entire coilover to make the adjustment. You need to loosen the set screw you can see in the photo you provided. Then you need to use the coil nut adjuster tool that are specific for these. Make sure you count the number of turns and do the same to the other side. Also make sure that your adjustment put the set screw in view so that you can lock it back down.

I’m a 2nd gen with a tad diff setup but with my preload I have set it still rides well. IMO You still have room to move up before losing ride quality

 

That tbar makes life easier than the pin tool

 

Its a great idea! All coilovers should come with this style. Those old style spanner wrenches have always been a waste of time trying to use in a tight spot.

 

I'll give it another try, it seems like with the reservoir hose I may be able to spin the collar a bit, but there is a gap in slots for the tool where the collar bolt is, not sure if I can get to the next hole.

I was mainly worried about loosing ride quality with more preload. I think if I do 5 full turns, that is a half inch of pre load which will raise the truck one inch. Sound right?

 

Who told you that? King's come set from the factory for about 1" lift up front and that's exactly what yours are set at. Can tell by the number of threads above the collar. 2.5" lift is gonna look more like @djthicks picture if not even more threads showing.

Would you be able to adjust the coilover while its on the truck if you un-mounted the reservoir from the frame and shimmied it/the hose out of the way of the collar/spanner?

 

That’s how I did it, the tbar has a angle to it also which helps. They don’t recommend adjusting in the truck cause you might loosen the top hat but I’ve been fine so far

 

I don't have the t bar, just the straight metal rod. Not sure if the hose can be moved, it's the metal connector that covers the collar more than the actual hose. I got it all as a package through filthy motorsports and was under the impression they would be adjusted to that height to match the new leafs

 

I adjusted mine on the truck using both the spanner wrench and T-bar. was super easy to do. Those shocks come straight from the king factory, no adjustments would be made.

Just be sure to lift the truck up from the body not the LCA otherwise you just load the coil and it makes it harder to turn.

 

DO NOT LOOSEN SET SCREW MORE THAN 1 TURN. The collar could jump threads and strip. I have the same shocks with 10 threads showing on passenger side and 11 on drivers side for just under 2.5 lift. Each 4-5 turns is about an inch.

 

Are these KINGs springs rated at 600lb?

 

I believe oem are however depending where you buy them you can choose different ones.

 

Good question. Will make a difference on how many threads are showing.

 

You can slightly loosen the resi fitting and rotate it up. Very easy to adjust after doing that
