Update: system threw all the errors today each time I went driving.

Added 2 washers to help tilt the sensor....still errors.

Going to try to secure the "Ghetto Garnish" to see if that helps.

OEM Grill/Garnish installed...took longer to get the damn TSS pigtail unplugged than everything else (Couldn't wait for daylight...used a headlamp) Pleased with it though...will test tomorrow.

Same problems as me...had more of the same issue today. I am installing the real garnish tomorrow...will see if that fixes it.

D'oh, I was hoping to get away without the shiny piece.
To confirm you had the license plate part glued in, and the washers installed eh?
That's a bummer, so strange that some people's work totally fine and others can't drive 5mi. There's gotta be some type of difference we are missing here.
    My bets could still be:
    1) movement in the plastic piece
    2) thickness of piece + default garnish fill piece non-uniform

Can anyone post a pic of the back of the garnish? Thanks!

I have the garnish and can post a pic, but it is much thicker than the piece of license plate plastic I am using. Also, there is no movement of mine...it is solid.

I have had two main problems: the clean sensor warning, which deactivated the PCS and radar cruise. But I have also had a problem in the the radar cruise “works” but doesn’t sense the cars in front of me. So there will be no error, but it will speed on and ignore the fact that there is a car ahead.

Frustrating, but hopeful the new garnish works...I’ll report back later today.

Have driven since my install now about two weeks and I’ve tested the radar sensor with cruise control and everything has worked fine.

Bummer to hear all of these issues for some of the others on here.

Are people having issues because they are not using the oem garnish? Or are you guys using the oem $50 garnish and still have errors/issues?

my issues are with a ghetto garnish (piece of black plastic glued to the back of the honeycomb). I'm going to install the OEM garnish...if it works after that, I will have an answer.

no need for expensive garnish! I've never had a problem, 2018 trd OR with tech. I used old Tupperware with crud and scratches on it, never had a problem in rain, mud, snow, night, fog, etc. lane departure and crash collision work perfectly.

This is what I can't figure out. I and some others have done this and have nothing but problems. Other people it seems to work just fine. There has to be something we are doing differently, but I don't know what it could be. This is a pretty straightforward mod.

I’m one of those that have not had any problems yet. Have driven about 700mikes with this setup and not a single issue.

One thing that I did was I unplugged the harness completely off the unit and sprayed the connectors with compressed air prior to reinstall. I also wiped the sensor housing after mounting to ensure no body oil/residue was on the sensor. I did all of that because my son who is 3 had picked up the sensor while I wasn’t looking and Was messing around with it. He dropped it on top of the OEM grill which was laying down next to me.

weird! sorry to hear that! very straight forward. are you baja or texas built? (maybe that makes a diff?) I'm baja. what have you used for a garnish? I had to tape and screw it on with bolts I found from the garage, maybe yours isn't perfectly straight? weird for sure!

Jelly of y'all who haven't had issues! Haha I am still having them, hope to spend some time with it tonight and try out a few different things.
Will re-install and clean, try without garnish (for a baseline) and then try different plastic.

I used the plastic license plate holder and glued it using a DAP instant fuse.

How can I tell where it was built?

    This is what I remember:

If VIN starts with 3 = assembled in Mexico
if VIN starts with 5 = assembled in US

Are all of the issues on the Ebay grilles without the garnish? Or any one with the OEM 2018 (PTR228-35180) having issues without the garnish as well?

My OEM '18 grille gets delivered today and I was going to go the license plate bracket route.

I have an ebay grill and installed without the garnish (I used hard black plastic sheet glued to the grill) and I haven't had any issues. Having said that, if I were to pick up an authentic OEM grill, I'd splurge the extra $50 and get the TSS garnish. I actually have a TSS garnish just in case my ghetto garnish starts giving me any trouble. But a few hundred miles in and it's been working great.

Yeah, my local dealer has a garnish in stock in case I need to grab one. Hoping for the best. I was able to snag an '18 model with a TRD Pro VIN which wasn't that much more than the ebay ones, but I just don't like the look of the shiny block on the front. Only time will tell I guess.
