Good to know - I'll be in a commercial shop for the work so I'm sure there will be plenty of tools at the ready.
Maybe it's a good thing that I'll be the last to install...learn from everyone's mistakes!

One thing I still haven't gotten a good answer to is the post-install alignment. What specs should be used? Service manual specs? Or is it not that big of an issue? The place I usually go to (for convenience) for my tires doesn't have the brightest employees sometimes and they will need to be told exactly what to do. And I know that if I go in there without solid proof they will most likely just look at me like I have a boob growing out of my forehead.

I think service manual spec except for caster. I read somewhere that when the front is lifted, the caster angle is reduced and usually needs to be increased a bit to correct the geometry. This is the angle of the wheel's center out in front of the steering axis. This will keep the steering from wandering/wobbling at speed, as I understand it. Do some googling on aligment and caster and you will soon understand. Or go play with a shopping cart for a while and watch the front wheels...do they have shopping carts in Montana?

It is actually typical for the passenger side to have a little more caster than the driver side to account for the typical camber of the road's surface toward the gutter for drainage. This keeps the truck from heading for the ditch.

shopping carts nope, just horse and buggy at the stores. such a headache for the maintenance crews...

good info though, i have the original specs so they know what to aim for. here's to hoping that they get it right the first time. Seems like some people recommend to wait a while too - to let everything settle in a bit after the install. Makes since in a way but I will be putting lots of miles on right after the install so I will probably do the alignment right after and hope for the best.

    1. I think their alignment machine will have the stock specs for your truck. (Assuming it is modern and kumpweterized and not steam-powered, and it is not operated by your favorite UPS person.)

    2. Not sure if I am right on this, but I think leafs tend to settle, but coils don't (at least not after an initial few laps around the block), so probably wouldn't bear much on aligment. I was going to have my front Billies installed at my favorite tire/alignment shop (so I don't kill myself) and have it aligned immediately.

I just always try to be prepared for everything so I like to find out as much as possible ahead of time!

Looks like wednesday will be the install day...sigh...another week to wait...

Bet you thought you would be getting your life back and spending less time on TW once the GB ended huh?

Time to get rid of conventionaly weights and have beads/sand dumped into the tire instead. :D Probably what I'm gonna have done when I get my 33s.

    !!!!

i wish i had seen this thread before i got my leaf packs 3 months ago. i agree with one of the previous posts... unless your experienced, you should probably have a friend help install the leafs.

my leafs originally gave me 2" of lift but settled a 1/2" after 2k miles with a camper shell mounted.

they're also squeeky! are you guys experiencing the same?

    getting there....
if your leaf packs are squeaky......try pressure washing them off/out....then spray between each pad/spring with a good dry moly lube after they have dried from the pressure washing.

What you got that stoopid look on yer face fer, boy?

Yes, so much quietness...OK, I'll entertain you.

I have been under the truck double-checking for all the tools I'll need, check where my torque wrench won't fit (near the f'ing gas tank...), etc.

I took measurements of my front coils and the leafs using the specified Toyota method. I need to buy coils now. They are about 1.5 inches sagged down from stock. They are worse than the leafs. Grr... and I am not going to load up the Billies to compensate THAT much. They would have to be at the highest setting to get anywhere near level. :frusty:

I think I am going to get some OME 880s. Been shopping for a good deal on an electric (corded) impact wrench and an angle grinder, too, just in case. I also need a bigger torque wrench and a couple torque extenders.

That's the best part about spending all this money. It gives you reason to buy more tools...and spend more money. It's good for the economy. It's American, dammit!

if it makes you feel better, I'm still waiting to install...everything is still sitting on the garage floor... Although I considered locking my Billies in a safe somewhere. Those things are more sought after than gold right now.

    sounds like typical "guy logic"
