There's a truck in my area that has a big sticker covering the back window that says "real trucks don't have spark plugs"

I want to put a note on it that says "real trucks have 3 pedals"

The truck in question is exactly what you would expect:
    6"+ lifted Chevy crew cab
6' bed w/huge tool box so 4' of usable space
    35's on 22" black/chrome wheels
    8" diameter exhaust

Auto will always be better for trucks, torque converters are miracles in a can. They multiply torque and make every gear more usable. Water doesn't affect them like a clutch in a water crossing.

The problem with autos in 4hi is they can do a whole trail as such but they converter creates shit tons more heat.

I wish it was easier to switch from 4hi to 4lo like the older trucks, but for now we do what we must.

I wanted to do with it with my 16 when I had it, but it was a lease haha. Didn't make sense.

Just wish the "offroad" was like the old FJ and 4runner that came with the levers.

Can you explain this for me? Is the clutch not a sealed thing?

In between tacomas, 2 of my friends and my sister have 2nd gen's that I work on for right now haha. I have a subie that I tank around in currently.

I was always taught during water crossings not to clutch as the water enters the friction surfaces and can prevent the clutch from re-engaging.

Also during water crossings you shouldn't shift anyway as the power needs to be constant or you can bog down.

Pick a gear and give er'

I believe in most cases yes, the housing is not completely sealed. There are wet clutches that are oil lubricated, those are probably sealed.

If you don't change gear when clutch is submerged you won't have any issues.

It is no worse than water getting on a brake disk. This is how I ride around on my bike:

    I like spinny things.

If you guys crawl under the Taco, on the left side of the bell housing is a black cover. Just pull on it and it will come off. It is the inspection cover for the clutch.

    Dry clutches are always vented.

You can shift while you're in the water because the flywheel will just throw the water off, same as a brake disc. If your flywheel is completely submerged you've probably killed your engine anyway. But you shouldn't shift while doing a water crossing because water crossings should be done smoothly.

Good to know, thanks everyone! I've only gone through a couple of big puddles, probably not even up to the frame, but definitely noticed the extreme bogging down.
