I can do it no problem, but it’ll look like Ray Charles did it with his feet.

Ok Teach, what are the cam tabs function? How do they get "pushed" and "bent". All I know is that you mark them before doing any work in there so you can put them back in the same place. But I don't know what for or why.

    Do tell. Please.

Used for alignment. Stock ones are super thin sheet metal. Smack once on a rock, donezo.

So the cams are the actual bolts that hold the LCA on. The hole is off-center, so when you turn them, they move the tire in or out, and this is how an alignment is performed.

The cam tabs are the little "walls" on the side that hug the cam, and what it pushes off of in order to rotate properly. These can be flattened from off roading, or bad alignment technicians. Total Chaos makes a reinforcement that replaces those with super beefy metal. You're not bending these.

We’ve been asked. Issue is many companies already make them. They’re super simple and near impossible to improve on so we didn’t bother. We try our best to offer products we can improve upon as to what’s already offered. Sometimes we just admit defeat and recommend people to other brands. Maybe one day a light bulb will turn on and I’ll be able to come up with a better design. Until then we tell people to go with BAMF.

Put the skid on TOP of the LCA. That's innovative.

Thank you Randy. I believe I have a better understanding of the purpose and how these work. So the larger white disc with the markings rotates around its center and is accomplished by turning the nut part with a wrench? Does that mean that the nut rotates with the disc around the circumference of the disc? "Moving the tire in/out" is what adjustment? Caster, Camber or Toe?

So if those little tabs can be damaged, what about all the other parts they are attached to? Are they as easily damaged?

I really dig learning about my truck like this. Thank you

Yes, you got it! It's a pretty cool little piece of hardware. If you look closely, you can see it's actually two separate nuts. The blue one is actually attached to the cam. It's all one piece. The red one is an actual bolt that runs through the LCA. You loosen the red, and that lets you turn the blue around for adjustment. Then when you have it where you want it, you tighten the red to lock it in place.

The tabs themselves are welded to the frame. You don't need to worry about damaging any of that.

Here's a pic of the tabs when I took them off my truck. You can see it's just thin metal bent at a 90 degree which is why it's easy to flatten.

    upload_2018-6-13_23-35-35.jpg

Here's what they're actually attached too. If you managed to damage or bend this, you're in serious shit and other stuff would have broken too.

That last pic is one of my faves. Truck high in the air, miller welder, aggressive tire and raw bumper in the background make for a great pic.

Not sure why you're doing all this work. You're gonna sell it in a month anyway. :D

I figured since the weather is supposed to be nice Saturday I'm gonna drive up to the cabin to roll down some Thompson water sealer on my porch floor. If anyone wants to come up to do some shooting Saturday let me know. I'm leaving Saturday night because I have plans to go fishing with my dad Sunday.

You could just take the $2k you'll spend on the gears and instead put the cash in a bag in the backseat. It will sell faster.

Have you replaced your worn rubber rack bushings with poly bushings? Makes a big improvement with alignment results specially when running oversized tires. I did the poly bushings on my runner, Tacoma & my step sons Tacoma, they really tighten up the feel of the steering.
