Hi guys! Just bought my first Taco 2 weeks ago and I’m loving it! She’s a 2004 SR5 double cab 4x4. I just took her off roading this past weekend!

Nice! Hidden falls adventure park is pretty cool, its up in the marble falls area.

Not sure if youve heard of Barnwell mountain recreational area, but its pretty cool too. BMRA is located just outside of Gilmer, so that one would be a much closer drive to you

Yeah I’ve been there but not in my Taco. I went with a friend to Jambo last month. Had a blast. The second picture above was at Bridgeport. The OHV Park up there. You should check it out sometime too if you haven’t been.

I’ll definitely check out Hidden falls. Thanks!

Welcome! I too am in Dallas (Denton area). If you have any questions about the 04' this is the place. Feel free to PM me as well. I've been working on mine for a long time.

I go to Toyota Dallas all the time for will call parts. Their online parts department have awesome prices. Lady who works there says their Jambo in Gilmer is awesome. I meant to get out there this year but I did not. Did you really like it out there?

Also I went to Bridgeport last year and it was pretty good. All Jeeps though, which was a bummer.

Thanks Jim! I appreciate that. If I run into any problems I might hit you up. So far everything has been easy to work on. Tomorrow I’m replacing the rear drums and shoes so hopefully it’ll go well.

I love Gilmer but I was just a passenger both times I went. My buddy owns an FJ and he’s the one that’s gotten me really into off roading. I just went to Bridgeport last weekend. I went with a crew of 5 so it was a good number. Next time I go out there I’ll let you know!

It's easy, just keep one side together as a reference if it gets confusing. Also when putting the drums back on after new shoes, adjust the shoes until the drums just fit over them w/o rubbing then adjust the star adjuster if needed. (Practice spinning the star adjuster with the drum off first so you can see whats going on and get a feel for it.) And clean/lube everything very well....

Also, while you're in there, peel back the boots on the hydraulic cylinders and check for brake fluid leaks. Mine has 197k miles on it now, and they were bad and replaced last summer. I kept the old cylinders (don't know why as they are pretty cheap) with the intention of rebuilding them as backups. Again, I don't know why because the originals lasted 13 years. But if you want/need them, you can rebuild them with a kit from Toyota for way cheap, and have them.

I will check it out for sure. My Taco has 212k miles on it so it’s probably due to change them out. Thanks Jim!
