Tyger roll up tonneau

I’ve been looking for an inexpensive tonneau cover since I bought my taco back in April, and I decided to get a Tyger Auto ToPro roll-up tonneau (TG-BC1T9044) for my 2017 SR DCSB based on the good reviews here for the folding version and the good reviews on Amazon. I didn’t see much for reviews on the roll up version so I figured I might as well post one up.

It only took a few days to ship which is always nice and came well packed.

The storage bag is a nice touch but I doubt I’ll ever use it.

I had a little trouble figuring out where the rails connect to the header piece but a couple minutes of wiggling got them to line up.

A little finessing to get everything lined up and it’s on. Super super easy installation!









Hopefully I’ll see a mpg boost tomorrow on my run to Denali national Park for work. The real test will be seeing how it works when it hits -20F and colder again this winter. The material feels good and looks nice, seems like it’ll be durable enough too. Overall I’m pretty pleased.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I bought a cheap ass trifold vinly tonneau cover. It does the job, but howls like a banshee in a cross wind, and I am sure will last about 6 months. Think I will go with a hard trifold next.

Any chance a bed rack able to fit on top with the cover?

 

I doubt it, unless the bed rack has room for the tonneau’s track.

 

Hey, thanks for posting! I just got my Taco a couple of weeks ago and this is my first post on this forum. I'm looking to buy the exact same roll-up cover as you here as a cheap solution until I install a bed rack for overlanding. Got a couple of questions for you.

-Do you have any noise issue driving with the soft vinyl? Does it flap in the wind and cause any noise?
-Would you be able to post some pictures of what it looks like when rolled up?

Good write up, thanks for the pic. I highly doubt it will impact your MPG though. It's been proven that tailgate up or down doesn't matter, so this probably wouldn't change that. Still, nice to have an inexpensive cover.

 

No issues with noise, nothing I can hear over the road and wind noise anyway. It does flutter a little but nothing terrible.

Why I got one of these over a tri fold:

 

So far I’m getting 1-2mpg better, including my best tank yet at 21.5mpg (hand calculated) on my last tank. 50/50 mix of city driving and 70mph “highway” aka Alaska two lane roads with 65mph speed limits and lots of hills and turns between towns. I drive nearly 1000 miles a week in summer for work so every bit helps stretch my mileage check.

I've had good results with Tyger products....they suit my needs and look good (step rails & matching receiver hitch step).


Wasn't sure what I wanted to do in terms of bedcover.....until seeing this post.

That rollup looks really nice and the price is comfortable.

Very interesting results on the mileage improvements you've experienced. I've lost 3-4 mpg after bolting on the step rails & adding much larger/heavier mud tires. Would be cool if I could get 1-2 back, lol, even though I'm not expecting it. It would be worth the cost alone to keep leaves and stuff from accumulating in my bed.

 

I have the same cover and the Mobtown Offroad bed rack fits perfectly. Victory 4x4's rack is also designed to go with a roll-up.

Yes, both mount easily to the Tacoma bed mounts. I got my cover first and just had to put it on. Much simpler if I would have waited, mounted the bed rack and then the cover. No cutting and pretty simple to put on. I did it by myself; it would be a little quicker and easier if you had someone help you to save from walking back and forth centering on each side of the truck. Rolling up the cover is not issue at the first rack, have to finesse it a little by the second rack near the cab. No issue for me since I installed an RV cargo drawer and don't roll up the cover. I'll be mounting a Freespirit High Country tent next week.

 

I just got this cover. Do you put the front up to the rear window or keep it off of the front truck bed rail? Right now I have it like half on the front bed rail, which is higher than the sides so I didn’t use the included weatherstripping.

 

Same here. I use it only on occasion, but so far it's been good.

 

I think any mpg gain was noise in the end.

I’m still getting 18-19mpg Highway and 16ish mpg city, and 12-14mpg towing a pop up trailer, with a 2” lift and 33’s. How? I go easy on the throttle all of the time, Use cruise control, and keep my highway speeds at 65-70mph.
