U bolt Torque??

Bolts, either Standard or Metric, all have certain torque ratings according to size and grade. 37lbs is NOT enough torque for the size a u-bolt is. 85-100 is the correct range. They should also be retorqued after a few hundred miles.

 

The rear leaf spring U bolt nuts Torque (for a 2003 Tacoma 4X4) is 90 foot pounds.

After reading comments about the u bolt torque, I took my truck in for normal 5 K check...asked them to check values. They told me the torque was very close to factory spec of 52 ft/lbs and provided a printed copy of leaf spring u bolt dwg. They also greased every u joint which apparently had NO grease from the factory. I am posting this info so people don't over torque u bolts.

 

Before removing my ubolts today I decided to check the torque on them. They are definetely torqued from the factory roughly 37 lbs. I set my torque wrench to 65 and got about another half turn on them.

 

Old, old thread - but just wanted to check the recommended torque spec for a 2015 Access cab axle U-bolts. I went with 85 ft/lbs.

Edit: finger slipped, 89ft/lbs I believe.

 

Eazy peazy edit - I used 85 ft/lbs because that what was recommend in a different thread.

 

I just updated my post lol, finger slipped, I believe its 89ft/lbs instead.

 

My Hellwig AAL's came with instructions - which stated 90 ft/lbs. I went with 85 ft/lbs of torque - because #1 I was using a 3/4" drive Harbor Freight torque wrench and #2 I was beginning to worry about the amount of force I had to apply.

I'll check it this weekend.

 

Does any one happen to know the torque spec for the Wheelers u bolt flip kit (use with the timbrens)

Just installed the wheelers u bolt this past weekend. I went with 85 ft/lbs as suggested on other various threads. Gonna check on them again in 400 miles.

Haynes #92077 for 2005 to 2015 all 2WD & 4WD models has

U-bolts nuts
2005 through 2014 models 37 ft lbs
2015 models 52 ft lbs

 

Torque them U-bolts

 

i just went out and checked and retorqued to 80. All bolts appeared to ok

disheartening to know such a critical bolt torque setting is wrong both in the factory manual and haynes

Your right 50+- is the correct torque for Tacoma U bolt...anything over 60 your start striping the tread.

 

Is that for every single model Tacoma? 50+ isn’t much help. What do you base your information from? You sure your “striping” thread and not stretching the U bolt?
