Not at all chief. I honestly could care less about any of that or anyone's .02. Just thought it was funny how you were dogging a roof rack and what goes up there to want to buy one is all.

I'm trying every day to make a 3rd gen that is worth a shit.

But the new cab mount is retarded. It's no longer a cutoff wheel exercise to do a CMC. You all but have to use a sawzall, unless you've got some really big cutoff wheels.

I don't have a problem taping up the cut and wheeling. Will make it easy to check for rub spots. The problem is I'm cut back to the point of being in a bolt head that holds some gasket on the top of the cab mount. Dunno how important that thing is, but if I went farther I'd cut one side of that thing off.

Don't go any further. I've seen some really aggressive CMC jobs on here that do go into the washers and bushings of the cab mount, though. Assume those folks don't have issues.

It's that smaller bolt in the front of the big bolt/washer that I'm cut back to the head of now. I'm not actually sure that piece it's holding on does anything, but I'd rather not find out. We'll see how it does this weekend.

Going back further doesn't much help me anyway, because I can't get the body hammered back any farther above it.

If it were me, I'd weld the plate in so long as you feel comfortable you're cut back as much as possible. Sharp edges remove chunks of rubber. Smooth plate doesn't so much. Tack it in 3 or 4 spots. You can always cut those welds if you need further surgery.

When Everett did mine, (albeit 2nd gen) we cut some of the washer, some of the rubber bushing. Not a terrible lot of it, but "some". Soon be 2-1/2 years without a problem. Never an issue. I've had 2 sets of 35's on mine to study tire clearance issues. Nowhere near rubbing on CMC....Did hit flares....Soon to be :sawzall:

Yeah, the cab mount is just weird on the third gens. 2nd gens have that weird gasket thing on the top too, but it's rotated differently, so that small bolt doesn't come into play at all. I can't get to where I'd really be cutting into the bushing without cutting the end off of that.

There's also a big rubber washer thing on top that you can kind of see which is super close to where you weld the plate, so (and everett said he had to do this on caboose's truck when he did it too) you basically have to tack weld, wait, tack weld, wait, all the way across the top so you don't melt that thing. Dunno why they decided they needed to change this all up. I'm also having a hell of a time getting a straight cut because of said gasket- we're going to end up welding one side of the plate on then hammering it to bend to weld the rest. Not a big deal, it just won't be a nice straight cmc like most 2nd gens get.
