Smittybilt is the budget route... YMMV, but a lot of people have had zero issues with theirs.
I haven't legitimately used mine yet, but I picked up the 10k synthetic w/wireless remote from ebay on one of their coupon days, and it ended up being under $400.

 

WHATTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!! $400???? That is a great deal! The warn 12K one that I was looking at was close to $1200. Does Smittybilt has life time warranty?

I've already used it, but here's what it looked like:

in June '17 i got the 10K synthetic Smitty from Morris 4x4 for $464 before $50 rebate. it was a shady internet purchase but it worked out.

 

then you got to haul that big ass burner around. compact size is key.

i mean, for home use that would work fine but you need the foldable legs for expo points.

 

Could just make a simple wider, slightly taller ring that attaches to it.







Or just cook over a good bed of coals like a real man.

 

Warn Zeon is made in the USA. VR Series is made in same factory as Schittybuilt and other Chinese sourced winches. The Chinese sourced winches use sintered metal hubs. Not something that will last...

 

Who was in Newark at the Chevron on Paseo Padre Pkwy. at 4:00 PM today? I couldn’t catch a picture but it was a dark gray-ish 1st Gen with the big fiberglass bedsides, fenders and a 2nd gen front clip conversion. No tailgate, but I’m pretty sure it was a 1st gen.

 

Anyone with a turd gen have a stock rear bumper laying around? Buddy got rear ended while parked at work. He’d rather use the insurance check on his land cruiser build

If the winch is inside the metal bumper, how do you guys engage or disengage the clutch to spool the rope?

Trying to learn how to install gears...would lik to do 4.88 myself, but margin of error is very small.

Get a backlash tool and some yellow paint. Also be willing to take it apart half a dozen times to shim it.

That’s what did me in. I did two sets of gears and was over it and I just bought a preassembled for the third time I did gears.

I used to not have a lot of patience. Thought after two kids I’ve found some.

 

I wouldn't buy anything from shittybuilt.
