Yeah I've tried to heel toe the Tacoma and... sheesh it's not useful haha. Especially with the lag (I don't have the OVTune yet).

I have a MPG question. I just switched from 265/75/16 ko2 e load, to 265/75/16 Falken wildpeak at3w passenger. I was getting about 18 mpg with the bfg’s and thought I would increase a bit with the falkens coming in at almost a full 10 lbs apiece lighter. I am maybe getting .5 mpg more? I am a little disappointed but the ride quality is better for sure. I really liked the ko2’s but just thought they were overkill. Also the same day I purchased the tires I went in for a 10000 mike service and told them not to worry about rotating n as I just purchased the tires. Could they be out of balance? Allighnment issue causing mpg loss. I’m not sure but think I should be seeing better gains over the e rated tire.

I'm one of those! Not only is it unnecessary, it's tough to heel and toe on the street. You don't need to blip the throttle either. If you're downshifting just give it a little more gas so the gears mesh easily on re-engagement. People like to call that "rev-matching." In my book, it's how you always drive a stick. Upshifting or downshifting it's just part of the situation that some people seem to have "re-discovered."

Now about heel and toe. The Tacoma isn't really very good for it - it's a truck. I have a GT350 and even it isn't great - on the street. On a track, heel and toe works because you're hitting the brakes hard at the same time you want to downshift. That takes three feet if you don't heel and toe. It's easy since your foot is applied hard on the brake giving a firm position from which to hit the gas at the same time. You're also pushing the brake pedal down farther so the gas is easy to reach. Again, heel and toe is best suited for aggressive braking and downshifting; on a track. Try it with light braking force in a Tacoma and I bet you'll have a hard time learning how to do it.

In your Tacoma, if you're trying to get from 2nd to 1st without stopping the truck, you'll find your synchos will do the job but it will feel like you're forcing things. When you feel that, think about it. You're wearing your synchros. The way to downshift easily is an old technique from non-synchro (dinosaur) transmission days. Double clutching. Google it, but in a nutshell, you push in the clutch, shift to neutral, let out the clutch, blip the throttle, then push in the clutch and shift to 1st. Done properly, the shifter pops right into 1st. This works because your using the engine to speed up the transmission counter shaft rather than making your synchros do the work.

I find many times I'll slide into 1st gear when I do it at exactly 3mph.

Like blondes, manuals are much more fun (going the speed limit) 4th to 5th and 5th to 6th are awesome which I cannot demonstrate while obeying the speed limit law in the video.

Pretty much, the stock sport suspension is bouncy for me, even off road, I’m changing to stiffer everything at some point. You have the same truck. Yes all paved smooth road.

I’m certain bigger tires with a lift would move more on and off road.

Toyota put a high rev 3.5L engine, it’s what I have to do. I’m not afraid to drive the shit out of my vehicles (within the speed limits) especially in the 60k powertrain warranty.
