Lol...I got 2 kids and still don't have enough patience either. This is my buddy's Jeep. This is the second time he broke his front diff after he did the LS swap.
I'm leaning towards buying pre- assembled diffs from ECGS, because changing gears on taco is lot more time consuming and shiet cost 3 times compared to Jeep's gears.

i went with the 10k synthetic engo, good reviews. it worked well for me. never an issue. it is louder then most but cost is low if you find a deal on one. You cant go wrong with a warn though.
    EDIT:::
ask around my engo has pulled so big shit out.
pulled a ford f350 out a ditch plus many others.

I think both, Smittybilt and Warn, has their fan base. I have heard good and bad things about both. So far, it seems like tossing a coin and see where you land. I don't mind buying Warn if it wasn't expensive as hell. IF, I do go with Warn, I won't have money left for gears :(

Did he actually swap in a Corvette engine or just a 5.3 or 6.0? And what front axle is he running? If it's just the stock dana 25 or 30, no wonder. Needs at least 44s. I'd advocate yota axles over 44s though. Tons, as always, would be amazing. If he keeps breaking, it's time to swap in a stouter axle. Or increase gear ratio (less reduction) for stronger gears.

He swapped 5.3L engine and it is CARB legal. He did upgrade the axels and put in "stronger" gears, but that engine has way too much torque for those gear to handle. His plan was to go with Tons and upgrade suspension to ORI's and put 40's on it, but he just bought the RV this year, so Jeep is on back burner. Funny thing is both times when he broke his gears was in Pismo and pulling out other vehicles and both times he was in reverse gear lol

Old adage “buy once; cry once” applies to these decisions. Better one good component and wait to get second than two eh items you have to buy again.

I guess, I need to get drunk and pull the trigger on this. Although, I was hoping to find some sweet deals during July 4th sale.

If you’re *not in a rush keep an eye out and buy used.

My brothers and my dad have all bought used warns and have been super happy. My younger brother even rebuilt his warn.

I personally have never needed a winch so I’ve never bought one. :D

(Of course everyone else in my family has one so... they pull me out)

To be fair, Don’s friend had his Warn shit when he needed it to work (same as Don and his Smitty).

Sometimes shit is shit, and sometimes spending more isn’t really the difference in reliability. I dunno which I’d bank on more, cheaper stuff working better than I expect or more expensive stuff being crappier than I expect.

Warn certainly has more brand recognition, but I’d be willing to bet they’re fairly comparable in the grand spectrum of users. Every company turns out shit and things that run hard forever, somewhere in between is brand reputation. Smittybilt doesn’t seem to be nearly as offensive of a brand as most think.

    Like Samsung or LG refrigerators/appliances.

I’ve had good luck with them yet you recently advised against both.

All opinion is based on experience in the end I guess.

After you mentioned, I have been doing some research on Engo as well. Sounds like they have very good customer service and they stand behind their product.
